Finally some better news ...

#1 Post by Clo »

Hi cyberfriends,

I just wanted to share this better news I got this morning.
You know that my new ortho focused these last weeks only on trying
to close my open bite. Well he was saying this morning that it worked
now for about 75 %. I have 2 pics here that proove the progress.
This one dates from about a month ago :

And this one I took today :

I think I gained about 2 to 3 mm less open bite. My ortho thinks it will
even be better when my occlusion is improved. Also this will not be very
easy I fear. It involves correcting more my class 2 bite and widening
of my lower jaw.
Anyway, after having been very close to be needing jaw surgery, my
ortho is convinced that this will not be necessary anymore. Needless
to say that this is quite a relief ...
To achieve this improvement, my ortho had to grind off quite some
amount of my molars. Especially the second ones. I felt quite sad
when that happened. I never had a cavity or something like that, and
now, quite some amount of tooth needed to go, due to (probably) bad
treatment by my first ortho.
But now I think I finally am ... on the right track :? ...
But the detour I made will be more than an extra year ...

Congrats Clo! I can really see a huge difference between the two pics, I know you've worked so hard for so long trying to close up that bite-you deserve that good progress!

Wow! That is a huge difference! How exciting!

That's quite the elastic configuration you've got going there. I don't think anyone could complain about theirs being too awful after looking at what you have to do.
Full upper and lower metal braces put on May 12, 2005.

Braces free as of April 18, 2006!

Temporarily rebraced Nov. 21, 2006. ( I think I've moved past temporary. )

Brace free again - July 26, 2007.

SO HAPPY FOR YOU, CLO !!!

Glad you found an ortho that can help you!

Your teeth look awesome so far and its happening so quickly.
I hope you go back to the original ortho after its all done to show him the final results. Perhaps he will consult with that ortho to learn his techniques.

Hi all,

many thanks for your kind words.
I hope you go back to the original ortho after its all done to show him the final results.
My first ortho was 'a she', but nevertheless I think it is like putting salt on
an open wound. Not sure if this is a right expression in English, but I am
sure you'll understand. I mean I took some time to write a letter to tell
my first ortho I would stop treatment there. I think I weighted each word.
I expected a not so nice phone call. And you know what, I got nothing,
not a word ! Ah, I thought this is not nice, but on the other hand better
than having to start a painful discussion. So I think I'll better rest that
case.

If it were me I would go back to the original ortho JUST FOR THE SATISFACTION of showing her! :P

You can always send her a photo after the braces are off.

Hi Clo,

Did you have to pay all over again? I am starting to go through this process and I am ready to cringe at the thought of 11k total on braces and of course the 4 years of my life :)

OMG,

Alyssa, I read your post in the section 'ask the doc'. I see your braces
experience isn't also the most simple one. I always freak out when I see
the amount of money Americans have to pay for braces ...
Now about my costs. Because I went from one RO to another, costs were
about the same. But I gained money I think ! I'll try to explain. My first
ortho asked that I pay part of the total cost in advance. Not that much
though. The rest was payed everytime I started a new cycle of 6
adjustments. So you can call this spreading the costs in time in almost
equal parts.
My new ortho asks much more in advance, but adjustment costs are then
much lower. And now I got this deal. He dropped all initial costs, so I only
pay the lower adjustment costs.
Are you still with me. So I payed the lower initial costs of my first ortho,
and then later on the lower adjustment costs of my second one. The longer
my treatment lasts, the more money I gain. Ehhhh, the less money I have
to spend. I admit this is not the general rule out there, so I was lucky I
guess. So, no, I did not have to pay all over again. But I have to add
that my second ortho did continue working with the same brackets and
bands. He did not place new braces.
In your case, I can really understand this must be a major concern.
If you feel you can talk freely to your new ortho, I would bring this up.
He may drop some costs if his heart is on the right place. He may help
you to try to recover some money your dentist asked. Maybe your
dentist will understand he did not do well for you and has some conscience,
and will pay you back some. But I only think that because I believe that
in everyone, you can find something good. For some, you have to search
very deeply, but still ...

Feel free, Alyssa, to ask more. I'll be delighted to help you more.
I really hope you'll find your way in this journey.
All the best !
