wow, i'm so impressed with your rapid movement. My teeth are similar to yours and I was wondering how you dealt with the brackets hitting your upper lips. I've had mine on for three days and that is the worst for me so far. I'm caking wax on them, but it looks terrible at work, is there a better solution? Thanks for sharing! Very inspirational

I am so encouraged by looking at your pictures because my teeth appear very similar to yours. I just got my top braces on July 25th and had 2 teeth extracted on August 1st due to overcrowding. Thankfully, I have had no trouble or pain at all!! I have wanted to get my teeth straightened for as long as I can remember and I finally decided to "just do it" at the age of 47!!! The definining moment came in June when I got my vacation pictures developed and the look of my CROOKED TEETH upset me more than the flab hanging over my bathing suit!!!! I can't wait until August 15th when I go for my first adjustment after the extractions because I know these "babies" are gonna really start to move!!!!

To everyone who is considering adult braces, I must tell you that I have had nothing but positive feedback from family, friends and strangers!! I have absolutly NO REGRETS, except that I wish I had done it 25 years ago!!!!

Congratulations on all of the movement! Your teeth are looking great, and I hope they keep going! Good luck with the rest of your treatment!

I can only suggest wax for you. My upper brackets are Opals and they are extremely smooth, as smooth my teeth were before the braces.

I have had rubbing from the rest of the brackets and a day or two with wax and I'm fine.

Believe it or not, your lips will toughen up and you will not even remember how bad it felt...until a bracketed tooth moves and makes another spot sore.

PLEASE read any posts on canker sores if you are getting them. You don't need to suffer with them. I use toothpaste that has NO Sodium Laural Sulfate in it and that seems to be the key for MOST sufferers.

Read more in the topics http://www.archwired.com/canker_sore.htm section of the main web site.

Best of luck to you!!!

Aine

I hear you!!! The teeth were far more upsetting to me than the flab!

Here's the thing... NOW I have to deal with the FLAB!

Okay...
I was floating in the pool where the water was 90 degrees and the air temperature was 102 and my husband asked me if I was cold  so I HAD to ask why. He said that my teeth were chattering!! I then noticed that it was bacause they were SO HAPPY to mesh for the first time in 18 weeks!!!

SO, here I am 2 weeks from my second adjustment (about 4 1/2 months into progress) and I just noticed that ALL of my molars are connecting!!!!!

The visible progress isn't so obvious any more, but there is still SO MUCH going on in there!

That's great news! I wish all my molars meshed... :P

I have the same type of thing going on, not much visible progress, but I can really feel changes in my bite. This encourages me, even though I don't actually see results.

It's amazing how braces are always working!

I've only had my braces for a week, my molars barely touch because of the brackets on the front of my teeth :( I tried eating a Taco Bell bean burrito, I was forced to swollow the flour toritilla pieces with out chewing it properly. I think once my one front tooth moves forward I will have an easier time of it. Until then I feel sorry for myself sometimes cause I can't eat normally or eat what I like or want. I hope by the Holidays I can eat turkey...at least I know stuffing and mashed potatoes wont be a problem. Glad to hear that you are making such good progress!

Hi everyone!

I have my 2nd adjustment on Wednesday and when I found my appointment card to make sure I had the time right (I DIDN'T), I noticed that he puts on the card what will be done at the next appointment!

I get a new lower wire...FINALLY (I've had the same one for 5 months!) I got a new upper wire last time (early June) and was looking forward to a little more progress on my bottoms. As fast as the top teeth moved, my bottom teeth haven't really done much to be proud of.

How silly to be so excited about such a small thing. Thanks everyone for not thinking I'm a freak because of my obsession!!

Here're updated (at 22 weeks) big mouth picture and lower arch:

Your teeth look awesome! Even the bottoms!

It's always exciting to get something new, like wires, powerchains, etc. It means you're making progress, and that's nice to know!

Hope your appointment goes well on Wednesday.

Okay, I had my 2nd adjustment this morning.

The first thing the assistant said was, "Why are your bottom teeth moving SO SLOW?" I was like,

Then the Doc asked her why I had only a .013 on the bottom. She said she didn't know why. He told her to put in a .016; she did and then 5 minutes later I was walking out the door. Before he went on to the next patient, he said something quietly to her and she said, "OK." :?

I thought my lowers were moving okay. Not super fast like my tops did, but she used the word SLOW. :-((

Oooh, that assistant sounds like a DUD. Why on earth is she asking you, as if you control how fast your teeth move. Sounds like she put the wrong wire on and the ortho talked to her about it. Hope they really start moving now. My lowers are so tightly wired and they just got rewired  but I'm still checking for some movement. They have to be doing something, right? Do you feel a lot of tension in your teeth now with your new archwire?

I think she was just trying to "make cute conversation". She's really sweet.

YES I feel a LOT of tension on my bottom teeth and they don't line up with my lowers any more so I know they're moving again. :soremouth:

Thanks for your sympathy, fins!!!!

treatment question

#30 Post by oorreeoo »

Your top teeth (used to) look like mine do now. My ortho says my top laterals are blocking the centrals from moving forward into alignment. He wants me to wear some spring contraption for 2 months to push apart my laterals to make room for the centrals to move forward. How did your ortho manage to move your centrals past your laterals?

Good luck, your teeth are looking great. Please tell me it's worth the pain, embarassment and $$$.

Thanks,
Chad
