Hi Ken! Yes actually, everything is all starting to come together. I had a phone interview with a summer camp yesterday, which I'm pretty sure I will be accepted into. The camp is in Pennsylvania. I don't have any specific travel plans yet as I'm going to wait until I get to camp to make travel plans with other camp staff there. But no doubt I'll visit New York, Miami, Chicago, D.C., California, Arizona, Las Vegas, Montana and if the Visa isn't too hard to organise I might pop over to Canada. I'm sure there are other places I will visit along the way! I can't wait until I have my 4 months of America!

I have an adjustment in 2 hours, so I'll have an update soon! :)

P.S. I'm REALLY hoping I get elastics this adjustment to fix up my bite. I know it sounds silly, but the earlier I get elastics, the earlier it should be to get my braces off!

Today I had another adjustment, I believe it makes it my 6th. I didn't updae my story for my 5th adjustment as I had it on the morning of my uni exam, so wasn't really in the right mind for updating it!

I still have the same wire on my bottom teeth, this is at least the 3rd adjustment in a row where that wire hasn't been changed. To be honest I'm a bit disappointed, because I haven't seen ANY improvement in my bottom row, and they are what are bothering me the most. My right side are SO much higher than my left that it's actually uncomfortable.

My top wire was changed to a 16, 22. The ortho also seemed to put some bends in it to even up my teeth I suppose. Still no elastics yet, but my ortho did mention that I'll most likely be getting them next adjustment which I am excited for!

My ortho said my progress is going well, so I took the opportunity to ask if he still thinks I'll be able to get them off by June next year, before my big trip to the USA. And he reckons he'll be able to do it. I really hope he can, because it would be so great to have my braces off before my trip!

I wasn't offered colours this appointment, I guess they just assumed I will stay with silver, and to be honest I probably was going to anyway, but I was considering getting red on the bottom for xmas! But never mind, this is probably the best option. I'm always happy with silver!

Here are my pics. You can see how my bite is actually getting worse than better, but hopefully that will fix up soon in no time. I'm sort of at a low at the moment. I know everyone experiences these, but I just want to see progess! In the first few months I saw so many wonderful changes happening, but now I can only see things worsening :( Oh well hopefully my elastics at the next adjustment will sort things out!

Thanks Ken :) You're right about the 'behind the scenes' work. I never thought about it that way! My arches have improved a lot when I looked at my teeth from day 1. What a change!

The camp is in Stroudsburg I believe. Near the Pocono Mountains. I am so utterly excited!

Australia is a lovely place. Sadly I haven't even seen most of it. There are still plenty of places I would like to see, and that is definately on my 'to do' list. It's crazy how I'll be going over to the USA and going all over that country, when I haven't even seen most of my country myself! The places I would love to visit are Tasmania, Alice Springs, Darwin, Broome, and Perth (I lived there as a baby but don't remember anything). If you ever get a chance to come to Aussie you should! It's a beautiful country.

My ortho has scheduled me for one more adjustment (in 2 weeks) before my debanding in 4 weeks. This should be music to my ears, but I can't help but feel anxious and concerned. I do not think my teeth are nearly perfect, nor do I think that my treatment has come to an end. I think there can be still some adjustments made. I chose to get braces to have a beautiful smile, and I'm not getting my braces off until I do.

These are photos of my teeth that were taken today. Please tell me anything and everything that you see slightly flawed with my teeth, and which I should address with my ortho of which to be fixed next time I see him. I realise that not EVERYTHING can be fixed with braces, but certainly some things can be!

I posted a similar post in the Metal Mouth page, only because I want to get as many responses as possible. I'm really stressing out, so I want as many honest opinions as possible.

Thank you so much in adance. I really do appreciate any comment, no matter how small or large it may be.

Pearls

Thanks so much in advance, any comments are GREATLY appreciated.

Pearls - Update - 6th adjustment. Pics page 9!

If I were you, I would want to see the top front gap (a very very small gap - you should have seen mine!) closed up. If you have an adjustment before debanding, then it should not take very much for this to be closed - a new power chain should fix it. I can't wait to get mine off (another 6 months to go) but I know that I don't want this to happen until I'm absolutely sure that they are as good as they are going to get.

Good luck.

Ok well I want to make a note of this in my blog.

These are the things which are bothering me:

-My right side of my jaw (photo left) bites down much deeper than my left, therefore making my smile look uneven.

-My midline is off.

- My teeth are quite spacey all over. They do not seem as 'tight' as they used to.

- My top left lateral incisor looks like it is sitting way way higher than my right one, again making my bite look uneven.

- My top right lateral incisor sits further back than the left one.

- My top left lateral incisor is not rotated to the front as much as my right one, making it look a bit wonky.

- My left canine is slightly more prominant than my right one.

- My top left front tooth is slightly longer than my right.

- One of my teeth on the bottom 4 (right, next to canine) is not entirely in line with the others

- And the thing which bothers me the MOST is that my bottom right teeth sit SO much higher than my left ones. It just looks rediculous, and it can be quite uncomfortable at times as the canine often clashes with my top lateral incisor.

Am I being unreasonable? Are my eyes playing tricks on me? I'm trying to convince myself that my teeth look great, but I cannot help but be unhappy. I'm actually feeling quite anxious about it.

Please help!

I agree with all of your worries. I think it's difficult sometimes to know what is and what is not realistic adult orthodontic goals. That said, I do know that many small adjustment can be made using a Hawley retainer. Have you discussed your concerns with your ortho?

Hey pearls! I posted a response to your post in the other forum and we have very similar issues its so crazy! I decided to read your story after coming to that realization and that's cool that you are coming to the US! I grew up in Pennsylvania and went to college there so lived there the first 22 years of my life. Im 24 now and live in California near San Diego. My husband actually lived near Alice Springs for I think about 5 years or so when he was younger and someday we wanna go on a trip to Australia. Your trip should be so fun no matter what is going on with your teeth, but I really do hope you and your ortho can come to an agreement that makes you happy.

Good luck!

I have to be honest here, if my teeth come out as nice as yours I will be very happy indeed :)

However I can appreciate that you are not happy, and I can see the issues you are talking about. In my option you most definately should tell your ortho exactly what you want him to do. After all, we all pay a lot of money for our braces.

Well. It has been a long long long time since I last posted!! I have been away on a five month journey to the USA, and have had an absolutely wonderful time.

I have now been back for a good 4 months and feel that I am much overdue to continue my story! I have had 3 or 4 adjustments since I've been back (I lost count!) and I'm now book in for a debanding in a month! I'm a little scared as I just hope hope hope my teeth are as good as they can get!!

I've got one more appointment in 2 weeks time, and then 2 weeks after that I will hopefully be getting my braces removed!

There are still a few things which are really bothering me, which I have brought up with my orthodontist at least 6 times, however he is certain that within a day or two of removing braces, teeth naturally find a position where they can sit comfortably. Otherwise if they don't he will have to file down some of my teeth (which I would prefer not since that's just removing healthy enamel!)

Anyway! Here are my teeth now.. 22 months after getting them on (with a 5 month period of no adjustments).
