The assistant possibly having bent the wire inadvertently sounds like a good possibility, jennielee81. :? I am glad that you'll be able to get it looked at soon.

I'm so sorry you've had to deal with this frustration!

Problem solved! As many of you stated since my last picture, the bend in the wire was in the wrong place. Not that the assistant or ortho did anything wrong in bending it, but the wire had slid to one side and this caused the bends to all be in the wrong place. (slid to the right in the picture below)

The ortho looked at my lower teeth and remembered that they had been straight by the end of my appointment last month. He grabbed hold of the wire with pliars and shoved it around about 1/4 of an inch. The tooth slid into a better position right away. He had the assistant put a stop on the wire to prevent that from happening again. He told me that this should fix it up close to perfect. Anything that isn't perfect in January can and will be fixed with retainers (WHAT DID HE SAY???!!!)

Then, this is the very cool part, he told me that they would make molds of my uppers today for my debonding in January!!!

Funny, I was in such bliss that I hardly noticed the impression gunk running down my throat!

I got to pick out my retainers. I chose a bonded lower and a hawley upper that will be neon purple with gold sparkles. That was fun!!

Here's a picture of the difference just 1 hour after he pulled the wire round to it's proper place:

Image

Here's the picture of it after it went out of line. It still looked exactly like this before my appointment today:

Image

You can really see the wire difference. I promise you that the wire was not removed or bent in any way...that's how far it had slid out of position.

I am GIDDY right now, knowing that I will be debonded on January 11!!! Was hoping for it before Christmas so I could eat the toffee that I make every year, but I will just put some away for myself and will enjoy the hell out of it 2 weeks later!

Héhé,

great that this issue is solved !
One thing I am really jealous of is how many members here can choose what
retainer they want. And even can choose the color. Seems great fun to me too !
If, I stress IF, I will be able to choose, then there is no way here to get a colored
Hawley. It is transparent or dull flesh colored. I know, I know, it is a detail, but one
that makes it all that tiny bit more exciting. Neon purple with gold sparkles ... wow ...

Anyway, congratulations !

I read through your story, but first I saw that you only had a couple of weeks left. It was like knowing the end of the movie before watching it..knowing the surprises and stuff..

Anywho, congrats!!! That's really cool. Why did you opt for the permanent retainers on the bottom? Jw

HI!

My ortho almost always does a bonded lower retainer. My two older kids had Hawley lower retainers and hated them (they had a different orthodontist than I do). They had trouble talking and my daugher actually bit her lower one a couple of times in her sleep and bent it. I didn't ask for it, but I am glad I am getting it....at least I'm glad now. We'll reserve final judgement for AFTER the thing is glued in there!

I'm not terribly pleased with my lower teeth right now so I hope that retainer can level them a bit. Dr. R. said that what ever wasn't perfect at debonding could be fixed with the retainers.

STAY TUNED!

Wow, jennielee81, you are in the final countdown! I'm excited for you.

I'm sorry that you are not feeling 100% about your lowers. Do you feel okay with going ahead with the debonding? I'm sure your ortho wouldn't do that if things weren't ready, but I feel for you that you are still wanting to see change there.

A lower bonded retainer sounds great to me (I'm hoping to be offered that). I'll really be interested to hear how well you like it. I'm sure a bonded retainer must feel like such a small appliance to have compared to a Hawley!

I'll definitely be watching for your updates. Happy New Year, jennielee81!

They're OFF

#131 Post by jennielee81 »

I got my braces off this morning!!! I will post pictures when I get home from work.

They’re not perfect but I LOVE them!! I am very surprised to see that they look just like my son’s teeth (well, before he stopped wearing his retainers). They still feel a little fragile, but I am getting used to that “freeâ€

jennielee81, I am so, so happy for you!!!!!!!

All in all, the removal sounded pretty easy (and fast!) and not too uncomfortable.

Your purple retainer sounds very cool.

I'm so happy that you are pleased with the way your teeth look. :D That is excellent!

I can't wait to see your pics.

I get a professional ("""") photo job done at my ortho's office on Feb. 13. Then I will reveil the "full face".

Until then, you are subject to these pics OR if someone takes a good pic of me I will post that.

BTW, nobody at the school I work at said ANYTHING about my teeth today except the one woman who knew where I was going.

Tomorrow I will offer "cavalier coupons" to any kid who can tell me what has changed. Could be fun!! If anyone tells me I lost weight they get Cav's anyway.
