What about him apologizing to me, or has everyone conveniently overlooked the fact that there was a reason I posted the email that I did.?

Maybe the better question is:

Can anyone recount my matter of concern with Dr. J's post? Not all the silliness that has followed, but what was my concern? Enough red herrings, why don't we talk about the real issue, if anyone knows it.?

Dr. J needn't apologize for anything or to anyone. He was simply making a reccomendation.

Just quit your stirring and stop making unnecessary drama paw655, I doubt anyone here really cares. You've been doing it since you've joined. I'm sure im not the only one who has noticed this.

OMG, I got up this morning. The birds are singing, plants are reviving.
Spring has arrived. I am happy and smile. And then this negativity here.
All I can say is this : this is not necessary. This does not help Alyssa
one bit !

Hi Alyssa,

I can really really understand what you are experiencing here.
I am disappointed with the compromises and I am not happy with the results so far
That is exactly what I experienced. At my first consult, all my issues were
not at problem at all. They could even shift a tooth from my left side to the
right side so to speak. And then treatment started. First months were
ok. But then I had to accept compromise after compromise. My overjet
could not be corrected. Due to the treatment, I got an open bite. Also this
could not be corrected fully. And so on. I got so frustrated. Maybe you
saw some of my posts here. I felt trapped as me too had paid everything.
I thought when going to another ortho, I would have to begin all over and
pay again all. But then I finally took the plunge and went to another ortho.
My god, am I glad I did that. Not only was I mistreated it seems, also
immediate action needed to be undertaken to avoid surgery for my open
bite. They also gave me a very interesting financial deal. So, this
decision to see another ortho was very good.
So, from first hand experience, I can say dr.J is right, sooo right.
See a real ortho. It will do no harm, may only cost a bit for a consult.
But you will know much more. Maybe like me, a real ortho will be able
to avoid surgery. They now have a gazillion techniques to correct or
improve.
Best of luck, Alyssa. Keep us informed please.

To dr.J. I feel so sorry that when you take some time to help us here,
there are individuals here that don't seem to respect this.

I for one have no idea what the real issue is...
There's certainly no need for Dr. J to apologise!!!
He was asking a reasonable question and was genuinely curious as to why Alyssa chose a dentist over an orthodontist. What's so wrong with that?

Hello Dr. J,

Thank you for answering my post. I didnt mean to open a can of worms with my question. I went to my current dentist because he markets himself as a TMJ specialist which is what was bothering me in the first place. He isnt a licensed Ortho and that is probably the root of the problem. I am happy with the improvement but I dont feel like he is listening to me. I really hate my profile (my lower jaw is pretty far back and I dont have a chin) and my lower jaw is a lot smaller than my upper. I think he tipped my teeth outward and I really hate the look of it and I dont think it is enough to fix the problem. I think he thinks he is sparing me the pain of surgery but at 25 this is probably the best time to do it if I were to do it at all.

I would consider switching to someone else but I have already paid him 4500 and my fiancee (who has a very simple almost cosmetic case) is going to him also so I dont want my dentist upset with me. I made an appointment with him on Friday to talk about this and if he is on board then that is fine. I have already made an appointment for a surgical consult and I am hoping they can refer me to someone else if my dentist wont go along with my wishes.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Alyssa

Hi Clo,

Thank you for your kind words. This all started when my coworker's wife had her jaw "fixed". I was so amazed by her results since she has a similar problem. Now I know it can be done and I am not going to deal with the maybes and compromises. If my dentist is willing to set up everything for the surgeon then I am fine where I am but if he tries to convince me that I want the other fixes, I am going to find someone else. He led me to believe he was qualified to deal with a case like mine so I feel very misled.

I have a meeting with him on Friday and a surgical consult in 3 weeks, so hopefully I will have an answer very soon.

Lower flaring usually happens with non-surgical/non-extraction tx of mandibular deficiency: small lower jaw. It's happened to me. I would schedule a "consult" or talk with your doc. If he/she is unflinchingly opposed to your ideas or concerns. Go see an orthodontist. It may be that you would require some financial restitution. It does not imply litigation. $4500 is alot of $$$. Most of the time a good doc will see that there has been a problem with the tx and will make things right. Esp. when you say that you are thinking of seeing another orthodontist. Besides, he's just your dentist not a boyfriend. It's okay to break up if things are not going well at all!
Good luck and keep us posted.

 :)

I want to formally apologize to Dr. J for paw655's posts. Not to mention any other orthos who may be reading this thread.

I don't understand her need to argue about everything, but she is no longer a member of this board. It was a difficult decision for me to make. I do not like banning people AT ALL, but I felt that I needed to protect the harmony of the board. Not to mention -- my inbox was flooded with complaints in the past two weeks. I very much have a "live and let live" attitude, but it was getting too intense, and too many long-time members were getting angry at the many dramatic things she posted. I felt that I needed to take action in this regard. It was not a pleasant task for me. Let us wish her well in her future treatment, and now let's all move on.

Thank you.

Thank you, Lynn. This board is a fantastic support system. Diverse opinions are one thing, but the board doesn't need trolls disguised as legitimate posters. I hope the new members who are concerned about all the recent drama will stick around and enjoy the support and information they can receive from the other posters.

Thanks Lynn. I feel quite relieved. It was the best thing to do, even if it was hard. I was really getting worried that new members were going to get turned off and leave. I was even feeling a little queasy myself. Yes, let's move on.

Dr. J,
This is completely unrelated, but I just had to say that I was born and raised in Columbia, SC and I have never heard of Podunk!!! So I think you're right, I don't think you'll be inundated with patients through your "advertising" on this site  LOL

Update

#27 Post by alyssabunny »

Here is my update...

I am going to a RO tomorrow morning for a freebie consultation. I think this ortho's husband is the one that I booked my May surgical consultation so it is definately a small world.

I didnt even have a chance to talk to my dentist on Friday since his assistant double booked him. He glue on my two brackets and sent me on my way.

I was so annoyed since I bit down on the inside of my cheek two weeks ago. The whole left side of my mouth is infected and even the lymph nodes under my jaw are a little swollen. I asked him about it, since as a regular dentist he should have some experience with this. He told me to put some wax on it and proceeded to stick that little sucky straw thing in the side of my mouth (that thing they use to dry out your mouth) and right in the gaping painful hole. Of course I screamed and he was like "I bet that hurts." Even his bedside manner is getting on my nerves!!!

Hopefully tomorrow will be better and sorry to vent
