Just had gum grafting. My ortho referrred me so he knows.
I have braces and was just told no toothpaste, no brushing, no rinsing, no swishing, no mouthwash - nothing. What about tooth decay?? OMG!
I can't brush, rinse with water, or use mouthwash for a week

I was told to not brush or floss after I had a procedure...but I did get a prescrption for a mouthwash known as peridex. It's been bothering me a bit lately, as I am worried about my teeth getting messed up. However, the ortho/perio took a look at them today, and said it was fine. In fact, I was even told that I still couldn't brush...
That's terrible not being able to do any of that for a week! I wouldn't worry about cavitites forming though. Just limit your sugar intake this week. It actually takes about 18 months for a lesion to turn into a full blown, hole in the tooth cavity. Just step up your oral hygiene after this week and you'll be just fine.

Thanks for all the well wishes! I am doing quite well and I am now brushing my top teeth (front only, where brackets are) and avoiding the roof of my mouth. I can also brush my tongue. I am rinsing my mouth but not vigorously swishing.
I am already sick of mushy food though!
I had a terrible stomach flu 2 days before this procedure and had to do the jello thing plus I started nursing school today so...gah...I have had A LOT on my plate.
*sigh*
