Today I put permanent retainers on my top line, but it hurts a lot when eating- my bottom teeth hit my top one and it's making eating a nightmare for me.

this is why our ortho won't put permanent retainer wire on top.
I'd call your ortho to discuss other option.

My ortho insisted on putting permanent top and bottom but I refused. That was over a year ago and have no signs of relapse. If I were you, I would call your ortho and get it off.
