Do I Have Too Much Going On For Braces?

#1 Post by Carol »

Hi, everyone. I'm new to the board. I have had braces as a child, but only on my upper teeth. They fixed an overbite and a large space between my two front teeth. But I was left with a "closed" bite. When I smile or when my upper and lower teeth are together, my lower teeth are not visible. I guess that is what is meant by a closed bite. I never had braces on my bottom teeth and they are quite crooked.

I would like to fix my bite and my crooked bottom teeth. But I have such a variety of things going on in my mouth and I don't know if getting braces would be an option. All my molars have had root canals and are capped. I have bonding on the front upper teeth. I also have two implants, one on top and the other on the bottom.

I guess my question is this: Will the pressure of braces loosen my crowns and implants or will they move the way natural teeth would?

Thank you for your help.

Hi,

I think it is "deep bite".

Anyway, I can only speak for the crowns. I have a lovely gold crown on a molar and they put a band around it. That thing is never, ever coming off. As far as bonding, etc. I hope someone else on the board can speak to those.

Good Luck.

Hi Carol and welcome. I too have crowns, most of which are banded. I would suggest you ask your questions in the Ask a Doctor section, as they will be able to answer with correct answers.

Best wishes to you.

Crowns on the molars are no problem. They'll just put a band around each (the glue doesn't stick well to crowns, therefore the need of bands instead of brackets). Then they'll act just like your natural teeth. I have crowns on some of my molars and on three premolars.
Implants don't move like natural teeth, but the ortho has a way to work around that, too.
Metal braces from March 24, 2005 until July 30, 2007. Estimate was 18-24 months, but I had them for 28 months.
