Anyone else experience this?

#1 Post by KittyW »

I've been braced 10 months. My teeth have moved ALOT in that time. After my last adjustment (end of Sept.) I didn't experience the usual 3-5 days of very painful tooth movement I usually have (most likely because the only thing they did was replace a band that I chewed loose and replaced an existing powerchain on my top teeth). Typically, my teeth hurt after the adjustment and then "settledown" until the next adjustment.

So...I woke up this morning and my lower front teeth were feeling like they'd had an adjustment while I was asleep! By the end of today, the inside of my lower lip was raw...as if I had JUST gotten braces for the first time. I am going to have to put wax on the brackets before I go to bed tonight. A few times today, an upper and a lower tooth felt like an electrical "shock" hit them (very weird feeling...only lasted a few seconds).

So, it's more than 3 weeks post adjustment and my teeth are moving ALOT again? (enough for me to notice). Is this possible? Has anyone else had an experience like this?

Ive had movement not just after the adjustment, but three weeks in. I asked the ortho if that was normal and he said yep, just depends what he is trying to achieve.

Yup, I agree. I went to the ortho two weeks ago to get an upper molar banded. Nothing really hurt after all was done. It will be two weeks tomorrow and last night one of my front incisors is sore from moving! I don't know about the "electical" shock - haven't experienced that one.

I don't know if it's a mind thing or what, but I know that my teeth become tender just before an adjustment.... they ache for a few days after an adjustment and off and on for 6 weeks, but then I get achey right before my adjustment. (I think some of it is mental because I fear getting the assistant from hell.....lol)

Well I feel like I'm not such a freak now!

The electrical think might just be that I appear to be highly charged. Seriously. My ortho's assistant has shocked me several times and has learned to "ground" herself before touching my mouth. I live in a low humidity area and the carpet in my ortho's office causes static electricity. I get shocked everytime I touch my car door!

Wow Kitty, be sure you touch your car before you lift the gas nozzle from the Gas Station Tank or take the gas cap filter off your car. A spark like you are describing could cause a fire if there are gas fumes floating around!

Atta,

Believe me, I think about that every time I fill up at the gas station!

My mouth is ripped to shreds today, even with the wax. I'm guessing my teeth rotated a bit (even tho they were looking really aligned lately!). My brackets feel noticably larger in my mouth. :(

After a almost year in these puppies, I am counting the days until they come off. I can't WAIT to get a Zoom whitening and bite into an apple!!!

The latent pain and lip torture....Yep, it's the Damons...

About the gas pumps and static thing, I'm always very careful (as I am sure you are)
but I am so worried that the guy on the pump on the other side isn't!! Image

I destroyed a xerox machine and our dishwasher with a static shock once....Image

Thankfully, I did not have to replace it.

It was at my son's elem. school and it was an AWFUL machine. They were really glad I blew it up so the county would have to buy a new one; something the county refused do as long as it was still working.

It was a good thing

Yikes, not had the electrical shock thing, but it's been two weeks since my last adjustment and my teeth have all just decided to move over night. I have anew gap this morning - oh joy! It's so weird how this happens and my teeth also seem to get worse just before an adjustment.

Yes! I have only had braces for about 2.5 months but my teeth hurt randomly and the electic shock thing hurts! This didn't happen right after the adjustment but about a week ago (2 weeks after the adjustment) it felt like i had gotten braces for the first time! My teeth didnt hurt but the spots that had gotten rubbed raw when i first got braces got rubbed raw again and my tongue hurt soooo bad from the upper/lower expanders! It was really weird acutally...
