Hi guys, I would post this in the invisalign forum but never get answers there.. Also, sorry in advance for rambling on.. Anyway, I feel like things are taking a bit longer to actually get started for me than most, though as long as things work out, I am fine with it. Still, I am super anxious to actually start my aligners!
A little back story, in April I had all my dental work done in prep for braces, the othro at my regular dentist basically told me he didn't have the tools for the treatment he reccomended and suggested I look into this school he knew of, well they basically told me they would have taken 3 times as long so I looked elsewhere. I am very happy with my orthodontist I have now. He basically told me to toss the other guys treatment reccomendations in the trash, he didn't think I needed most of his suggestions.
I was diagnosed with ectopic upper canines (one Is blocked out by my premolar, the other is less crowded), an open bite and a rotated upper jaw. A somewhat complicated case, especially for an adult.
My main concern was that I did not want to have my premolars extracted if there was any way around it. The ortho said its a long shot given my age but the only way he could see that being an option is by doing an expander to see of we can make more room up front. Other wise I would end up with an over bite. I have had a Hyrax rapid expander on for 2.5 weeks (need it for a month) and it IS working! Had a check up last wednesday and he said good but I need more expansion and decided to leave it on since its working so far. (He previously said if nothing really happened after the first two weeks he wouldn't waste more time on it). Now the only question is, will it be enough once the next 2 weeks are up?
If this plan of action works, I am actually going to be a candidate for invisalign! (With ectopic canines, I thought it wasn't going to be an option but this guy must be a miricle worker! But he is a top 1% provider!)
If I can't get enough expansion then plan B is to extract my premolars (top and bottom for proper alignment) and proceed with ceramic braces.
I need a bite block (removable retainer one) for my open bite. I assume this is the next step once I get my expander off... is this something I can do with aligners on? I wouldn't think so.. Maybe during the retention period maybe when I trade my expander for a palatal bar? I don't undetstand why I don't already have one... why wouldn't I be able to do my expander and bite block at the same time? I am going to get more information at my next appointment about the remaining time line/plan of action because I am getting lost now.. I fear that he may wait until my palatal bar comes off, then start the bite block process... I really don't want to wait another 3 to 4 months (maybe even longer) to get my first set of aligners :/
Any invisalign users have a bite block?

The dentist wasn't horrible in the ICarly episode but the mouth prop was a shock and the patient making lots of gagging noises with it in was one of the (inappropriate) jokes. As a nervous person you could have thought he wasn't comfortable and maybe not numb but I don't think that was the intention.
