Re: UPDATE!!
hey everyone,
sorry I haven't posted in a while but I've been having exams for school etc.
My smile distractor has no pain anymore!! I have finished turning it and now I can fit my thumb between my 2 front teeth. My next appointment I will be getting wires on my top teeth.
In my last appointment, I got a lower expander fitted and my orthodontist also mentioned that I have a muscle between my tongue and bottom teeth which was getting in the way of my expander.
He said that he could do a quick procedure on it now or he could do it tomorrow, I said now. The procedure was fine as I was numbed up.
The lower expander is fine, no pain, however, I can barely pronounce my words.
Also in my next appointment, they are going to fit a herbst appliance which is going to start to correct my overbite. Super excited to be moving on....

Re: UPDATE!!
this morning I went to the orthodontist, he said that he is very impressed with my process and he started to fit the herbst appliance in.
I have to say that it was way more painful than I had expected, because my jaw is very fragile from my expanders. My orthdontist had told me that he would do it gently but when he had to screw it onto my braces it was very painful.
I find it very hard to speak because of my expanders but now also with this I can barely talk, also because I have an extreme overbite and the herbst appliance is pulling my bottom jaw so far forward its very painful.
He removed my bottom expander and deactivated me top expander. He also added wired to both my top and bottom.
My orthodontist said that he could get my braces off in 6 months if he worked quickly but he warned me that there would be a lot of disconfort

Re: UPDATE!!
hey everyone,
Sorry its been months since the last update but I have been busy and something major has happened!
So around end of May, I had an appointment with my orthodontist, he basically said that my progression was slow and that he needed to monitor it more closely.
He suggested me coming in to the hospital (where his office is) for every day this week.
This meant that he could monitor my progress every day yet this would mean more treatments everyday.
So I agreed, he also mentioned that it would be free of charge due to my previous failed ortho treatment.
Day 1 I went to the office and registered at reception. I had to come in at around 6am on a Saturday which was fine for me but I was quite tired.
At around 7, I went into the office and he told me what his plan was.
He would hook up my back teeth and front teeth to spme elastics and these would attach to a machine, this machine was basically a giant head gear. The whole point was that it would bring my jaw forward but it would also keep on gently moving so it would be in more of a massage motion, giving me no pain.
He said that I would be hooked up to it around 3 hrs a day whilst one of the nurses would massage my jaw.
It wad fine for me because I was allowed to go on my phone and check my emails etc.
At around 11am, I had an early lunch but I wasnt allowed any solid food as it could damage the progress.
At 12, my ortho put a splint in my mouth basically which would join my lower and upper jaw together. He left it for around 5 hrs which was super uncomfortable at first but I got used to it. Whilst I had the splint in mu mouth, he told me he was going to use Accelated Orthodontics which is basically when a little needle type thing is inserted into many different places in ur jaw, which would speed up the progress. He did this however, it was quite painful because he was tugging at her lips due to my splint and also he used a needle instead of numbing gel.
My ortho did this for a week, everyday the same thing which was good because I saw a huge improvement.
Hiwever, on the last day my ortho said that instead of doing the same thing that he had done every day this week, he would have to do something a bit more serious in order to have maximum progress.
I was booked into the operating theatre for the afternoon which was to basically fit me with a perminant splint and also to expose my upper and lower gums so that he could properly carry out the accelerated orthodontics.
The operation was fine but when I came out I had a huge shock because I couldnt open my mouth due to the perminant splint but I also was in pain from the stiches after the exposed my gums.
He told me that he would like to see in 1 month which meant that I would have to wear the splint for 1 month.
He also had attached my top and bottom braces together with metal wires from top to bottom.
I am fine now but I just hope that my treatment will finish soon

Re: UPDATE!!
I am in awe (mostly terror) that you chose to be awake during the procedure and they also let you have the option!! That's horrific!! I can't imagine being awake having my bone sawed into and chipped at, that's the stuff of nightmares, literally, I have double jaw surgery coming up and I do worry about waking up during the procedure! You are very brave and it seems you have been handed a very complicated journey with your mouth/bite/teeth etc. best of luck with ongoing treatment
