@LouSkins: Hang in there! I hope you feel better already. Second week should be a lot easier on you. It's great that you got things started!

Try not to worry, believe it or not you will sometimes forget your braces are in within a few months.I also felt like giving up as 6m6 feels like a load of lego in your mouth!I wouldn't give up at this stage. At the beginning speech can be difficult, sores, drooling!and not able to eat!It will improve. I am one year and a half into my 6m6 (its been a really hard slog) but the end is near and when I look back at my crooked teeth it will be worth the wait!Good luck!

First Adjustment

#20 Post by Chippy3000 »

Hi all,

Quick update:

Week 1 on top Week 4 bottom

So m adjustment went really well. My dentist spent five minutes going WOW look at your bottom teeth! I was so happy. I don't feel like there's been massive change but she showed me the mould they took at the start and definitely moving! Thankfully the really painful quickties are gone!! I think I only have two on the bottom now. I got a new archwire on the bottoms and a coil spring to make some space. The first day the spring really made my jaw ache but that seems to be improving. Really excited as things seem to be going quite well. I still try and hide my top teeth but I always knew they would be a lot of work.

Amazing progress!

So this is week 1 vs week 9. This is the pic before my second adjustment. All my teeth are now bracketed, no coil! The one on the bottom that is really out of line is really starting to hurt! I'm up to .16 on top and bottom.

So looks like your wire is thicker now. Good news. I'm going in for my second adjustment this coming Thursday. Wonder if I'll get thicker ones, too. Your teeth are making great progress and I'm sure they'll look beautiful when it's done.

Wow I had no idea 6 month braces existed. How the heck to do they cut down treatment time 6 to 12 mo or more? And why don't all braces do this? This seems like a huge breakthrough in the braces industry.

Your progress is amazing!

Thanks everyone!

The thicker wires are definitely painful! I can already see progress though.

Six month smiles isn't for everyone. I was very lucky that my bite was fine, no tmj problems and healthy teeth. My back four teeth (two on top because my wisdom teeth never came through) are not braced as they do not need moving. I believe it is those that take longer to move and bite issues add to treatment time.

I was originally told my case would take nine months but my teeth have moved much quicker than predicted.

Soo happy with my progress.

Wow!! Your smile is going to look absolutely amazing in no time - such great progress already. It's crazy how these little wires make such a difference in so little time. Delighted for you :jump:

Very impressed with your progress after just 9 weeks. I'm about 9 weeks in with my 6ms and progress has been fairly fast, but not that fast! Will look great once finished.

Thanks everyone! The pain has more or less gone now. The new thicker wire seems to be doing its job! This is today:

The front is looking so much straighter. I'm really worried that I'll be left with an overbite but we'll have to see. I'm fairly sure im worrying needlessly.

I can't say any words with the th sound in it clearly because my tongue doesn't know where to go! It's all still so new.
