The Beginning of Six Month Smiles at 26
..and I am freaking out! Braces go on in five days!
I have so many worries. What if things get worse? Will they be obvious? Food!? I was severely anorexic for ten years and have for the first time reached recovery after an 8 month stay in a hospital. I think I'm going to have to accept staining and just eat anything I can!
I was really worried that my teeth would be too bad for 6ms and I'm worried that my dentist is over optimistic. I'll try and post some pics at some point if I'm feeling brave. Eeep.
Love to all. Xx

Be nervous, be anxious. It happens to most of us. The first initial months are the hardest as your mouth is adjusting, but it'll get better. You'll be surprised at how fast your teeth move!
Welcome!

Re: The Beginning of Six Month Smiles at 26
Thank you!
Reading everyone's stories has been so inspiring and everyone seems really supportive.
Thanks for having me!
My dentist said I had a class 1 relationship, I just don't know how there's enough space to straighten my teeth. She mentioned IPR but surely there's only so much they can do? I have a tooth which hides behind my right front tooth (it feels like I have three front teeth sometimes!) Which has butterflied (?) My front teeth and pushed my mid line off.
I can't whistle atm so I'm looking forward to that! I know I used to before everything moved!

They are on!
They really hurt, the bottom set mostly. I'm surprised she managed to attach a bracket and wire to all the top.
It took around 1 hr 40. It wasn't too painful to have fitted and we went over my x rays etc. We also listened to Adele and I found it really hard not to move and power grab in the chair!
I have bite guards on my top which makes eating really difficult.
Because they are so wonky I have four or five quick ties. Four weeks til next adjustment.

Congratulations! Mine went on today, too. They are the traditional type so you will probably have yours done way sooner. Hope everything goes well!

You will be fine. In about four or five months, you should have straight teeth!

Thanks everyone!
Bit Less pain today but eating is still such effort. I think I'll have to go back to my electric toothbrush, I just can't handle manual ones. My mirror will just have to get splattered!
Really wish I could flash forward! 9 months to go (hopefully)
Worried about going to work on Monday. Although I might talk less and then get more done!

Still quite sore but slowly becoming less self-conscious.
I'm telling myself that my teeth mus have started moving because different parts of my check hurts!
Starting to feel like this will be the longest 9 months in my life!
Can't wait to have straighter teeth.

Week One Update
So here we at week one.
I don't think there's been much change. I do feel like my arch at the back is more 'archy' and that one of the sides has straightened up. Its hurting where it didn't hurt before.
I just feel my smile is more rounded if you ignore the horror that is the front!

Re: The Beginning of Six Month Smiles at 26
So one of my bite guards has broken. A little bit fell off. It doesn't affect its height it's just annoying because it has a rough edge now. I've put some wax on it and it's not so bad. Trying to decide whether I should ask for it to be smoothed.
I feel like the wire on the hidden tooth is a bit loose but I think that might be because it doesn't have a convrntial bracket. I couldn't tell before because it was so hidden! I think it's called a button? The wire basically can't fall out because it's threaded through a ceramic loop. Has anyone else had one of these?
I keep knocking my top and bottom teeth together which is really annoying. It feels like when my teeth were moving into the horrible position they are now so maybe it's being undone.
I wish I had a time machine! I really want to see progress. I am notoriously impatient which makes me even more fed up!

I cannot believe how much my bottom teeth have moved in 24 hours! I can feel teeth with my tongue and see parts of my teeth I could never reach. Some serious plaque in places!
I'll try and get some pics together. Eee exciting!

Re: The Beginning of Six Month Smiles at 26
Hi all,
My first time posting - I had 6 month smiles braces fitted top and bottom 2 days ago and I am struggling!!! It feels like my mouth is full of razor blades, I have so many metal ties poking into my lips and gums, especially where the overcrowding is worst and the brackets very uneven. It feels so much bulkier than I expected and I can't imagine how it will ever feel normal!
I'm a 38 year old mum of two (ages 5 and 3) and I find myself getting so grumpy with them because the mouth pain just seems to take over everything else. Plus I'm a lawyer and have to talk a lot in my job which I'm really worried about - both because of the way it looks, but more so the way it feels - every word is so painful for my lips and gums, even using wax, ibuprofen etc. So far the only thing that really helps is wine but clearly that's not a sustainable solution!
Really tempted just to have them taken off again - but I know it makes sense to have the overcrowding sorted now as it's worsening as I get older and I'm so worried about gum disease and losing teeth. Love all the inspirational stories on here - really helping me get through these horrid first few days when all I want is for them to be ripped straight off!!!
