Just got rubber bands, new hooks are loose?

#1 Post by dejavu »

I got rubber bands for the first time today and while I was in the chair, they put new hooks on my braces so that the rubber bands could make a box shape. Anyways, the new hooks on the top are fine, but I noticed that on both sides on the bottom, the hooks are wiggly. Since it's on both sides, it makes me think that it might be normal, but I'm worried that maybe it's not and they're both at risk of falling off? They were only put on a few hours ago.

Wiggly how? Kobayashi hooks are made out of bendable wire (obviously, since your ortho just bent them into place!) so a little bit of wiggle could be normal. The hooks should be tightly twisted around the bracket and behind the archwire; even if there's a little wiggle, the fact that they're behind the archwire means they don't have anywhere to go, right?

It's hard to describe but if I tap the hooks with my finger (like when I was putting the rubber bands back on just now) they wiggle a little...like a bobble head maybe? That's the only example I could think of, sorry, haha. I'll have to examine them closer to see what's holding them in place.
