Gaps forming from wearing rubberbands?

#1 Post by mskk1354 »

Okay, so I started wearing rubberbands this july so it's been almost 4 months. I do feel a slight difference in my overbite, not so much. But It's bothering me so much because ever since I started wearing rubberbands, gaps have started to form between each teeth and it's annoying. Now my teeth look like I just got braces :( I have an appointment today, hopefully my otrtho will do something to close up the gaps.

By all means talk to your ortho about it, but be assured that gap creation and closure are a totally normal part of orthodontic treatment. Unfortunately, gap closure is usually one of the last things scheduled to happen in one's treatment, so you may just have to grin and bear it for a little while....

Are you wearing class 2 elastics (top canines to bottom back teeth)? Depending on what stage you are at, it could be the alignment of your teeth that is giving you the gaps rather than the elastics? Keep with the elastics, they work really well and I'm sure your ortho will advise you at your next appointment.
