Hook your fingers on the rear attachment points, pull downward until they disengage from between your teeth. You may then have to tug on the front, switch to the back again, etc.

After a little while, they'll loosen up enough that it will be a lot easier. (And eventually loosen up enough that you can pop it loose with your tongue. That said, strongly resist the temptation to "play" with your retainer with your tongue. You'll wear both the retainer and your teeth... don't ask me how I know. )

If you have adams clasps at the back like I have, pull down on the bridges of both clasps at the same time and the retainer will fall out easily. If you have ball clasps or c clasps, I understand that the preferred method is to pull down on the tops of the omega loops on your labial bow.

Sectional brace with Damon clear brackets fitted to front 6 upper teeth 3 January 2012
Brackets added to premolars 2 April 2012
Estimated treatment time originally 6-9 months
. Brace removed on 22 July 2013 after 18 months and 19 days
Now enjoying bonded upper retainer plus part time essix/hawley( I have both)
