Difficulty walking after getting rubberbands?

#1 Post by mskk1354 »

I've had braces for over a year now and I jsut got my rubberbands 2 days ago. My ortho gave me the giant tortoise ones(heavy) rubberbands and I have to wear for of those to fix my overbite. I do get headaches and feel dizzy which i thought was normal but now I have a problem when I walk it's like I feel like someone is pushing me from the back. I'm not sure if it's because of the rubberbands but it's confusing because it only started happening when i got them. I do what they told me to, I wear them 24/7 and only take them out when I eat and brush my teeth. I don't double them up because I've heard it could mess up your teeth. I'm not sure why I'm feeling like this :(

Talk to your orthodontist and go see your regular doctor if this continues. Are you allergic to latex by any chance?

You really should call your orthodontist and tell them about this. As far as I know, rubber bands should not make you dizzy, and certainly not dizzy enough to affect your walking and balance.

I would think that the orthodontist may want you to remove the rubber bands for a few days to see if the symptoms stop.

Yes they can be affecting your posture, if they are changing your bite. The way your teeth align can affect your posture. I wonder if you are actually standing up a bit straighter which is why you feel the pushing sensation. If it's making it difficult for you to walk that is something you need to address. Aches and pains and headaches can be a normal part of teeth shifting and will settle once the teeth have moved. I guess it's just using your intuition to work out whether it's a normal pain or whether it really shouldn't be there and is a signal that something's wrong. The position of teeth can affect a lot of other things going on in the body. There's even been a fascinating study about the connection to long or short sightedness in certain malocclusions.

Thanks guys! I don't think I'm having that sensation anymore since it's been about 20 days or so.

Daemon- Yeah, I think it might be my straighter poster and it's making me hard to walk. Also, my bottom jaw protudse more now.
