How is everyone doing in their journies so far?

#1 Post by oimysizex »

I am coming up to 2 years with braces now. I'm waiting for surgery(on NHS) and I'm getting well fed up now.
I know I cannot complain as it's all free treatment, I'm just in the final stages now and I want to get on with it!! My surgeon said notice is about 2 weeks before surgery, which scares me as i have no time to prepare.

I do not get any brace pain anymore and haven't for about 6 months. I have been in the same wire for at least a year now, whilst getting final things ready for surgery. So when I have adjustments now, all that gets changed is my ligs so no pain. Which is good.

Overall my journey has been an okay one. How about everyone else. Would love to hear from people

Sounds like your journey has been pretty good. Things could always be worse :)

I'm "only" about 8 months in. I can barely remember what my teeth looked like before. Lucky I took a photo the first day I got braces :) The change is massive "already".

(I'm quoting those words cause it feels like much longer lol)

I got an adjustment two days ago. Afterwards, he said the top ones should really start straightening up now but the lower ones will take a bit longer. The top ones were always the worst ones for me so, that's good news.

Still get pain after adjustments but I actually don't mind it cause it reminds me they are being moved.

I was beginning to struggle with them before my recent adjustment but am now looking forward to the new movement over the next few weeks.

Really good althought I did have one of those "I'm so done with this" days yesterday. It's been an interesting journey for sure to have braces starting at 47 years old but it's one of the best things I've ever done for myself and I'm so glad I did it. I'm getting married in September and for the first time in my life, I will be able to smile big and not worry about what my pictures will look like. I can't even imagine what that's going to be like!

I'm a little over 10 months in, and I'm hoping to have these things off by Christmas! My journey has been relatively easy. My teeth were pretty straight before, but I had some bite issues that needed corrected. Things have moved and progressed quickly and my bite is finally coming together nciely.

I'm looking forward to a giant bowl of popcorn when all is said and done. That is the one food I have stayed away from since getting my braces on. I can't wait!!

Glad things are going well. Hope your surgery happens soon!

I'm only 4 months in, and my open bite is already improving. It was worse the first couple months, but it's getting better. Of course, I still have a looooooong way to go, but I cannot believe how much my teeth have changed in such a short period of time. If I didn't have an underbite, I think some of my teeth would touch!

Got my deband date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8/25!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I go on the 11th to have my bottom permanent retainer applied.

My original sentence was 15-18 months...I'll be just under a year. Color me HAPPY!!!!!!!!

Planning dinner at a BBQ place and scarfing a full rack of ribs and corn on the cob!

(lots of exclamation points but I'm HAPPY!)
Braces off on 8/26/14 after a year!

I'm glad everyone is doing good with their braces. I don't think I have ever heard anyone say they regret braces! Right now there's a thunderstorm here so
I'm typing this half asleep, so please excuse any mistakes!

It's crazy how fast our arches can change and straighten up fairly quickly! My teeth were quite straight but my arches where wonky.

I'd like to hear from people having surgery too? How are people coping with the thoughts of it happening?! Scared? Anxious?!

Oh it's good you're getting pain, well not at the time but it means movement! I used to love clenching my teeth when i had brace pain! Sort of like the "nice pain" ha ha!

I'm glad everyone is having relativily good journies so far!
(Sorry if I've missed anything out)

I'm 19 months in and have been told 2.5-3 years so perhaps I "only" have another year. So far I've had virtually no pain and very little discomfort apart from a few wires poking into my cheeks. I got elastics about 2 months ago and they weren't nearly as bad as I had expected. There have been massive improvements in the past 18 months - extraction spaces have close, tipping and rotated teeth are now straight. I still have some bite issues which my ortho is working on now.
I'll never have a centred midline (would have needed implants for that) but I don't care. I no longer get daily headaches and my TMJ doesn't lock or click any more so I'm happy. All in all, I'm very glad I got this done.
