Glad it went well! Sorry about your expander, but I hope you get used to it soon.

Warning: I was EXTREMELY cranky for the first 3 days of braces. My boyfriend got an earful several times, and then when I was done yelling I'd start crying and say "I'm so sorry, it's not you, I'm just in so much pain!" lol. He's a trooper let me tell you! So don't feel bad if you're in a foul mood. You'll feel better soon.

Also: the pain didn't bother me when I was sleeping, so I did a lot of it the first couple days. Get some rest! Good luck and when you feel up to it give us some pictures!

Hang in there! Expanders are super annoying and saying certain words will always be difficult, but it should get better quickly. Did you know you were getting an expander in or was this a surprise? Anyway, hope it gets better soon and I hope your time with it in flies by. :)

Thanks! I hope it flies by too! It was kind of a surprise, but he talked about it some before but there was so much going on in the appointments I had trouble keep up with it all. I don't want to say anything with an "s" in it...but it seems like it all sounds awful now.

Did you get the hyrax type RPE?

If so, let me just say that I am very sorry! I had that for 5 months. I won't lie, it sucks, but some day very soon you will wake up and go an entire day without thinking about it. It took a few months for me but after that, I stopped hating it so much. Plus, talking will get easier and easier the longer it's in.

Ugh....yep....that is what is up there. It is so awful. It "only" supposed to be in for six months. I had no idea it would mess up my speech like this. I go back to school in August so I hope I can at least talk half normal then. I am glad you survived it....I hope I do too! :)

By August you will be like 98% normal!

I had a big potluck the first day I got mine in. Everybody I talked to said they didn't even notice my speech was different until I pointed it out. It only got better and better after that. I could always slightly tell but if you're anything like me, everyone will tell you it's nowhere near as bad as you think it is.

I had a difficult time saying anything with the long "e" sound, and certain other words my entire time with my palatal expander in. I never sounded completely "normal," and people asked me to repeat myself a few times a day. I guess it depends on the person. As for school, I got mine in a month after my classes started, so I came back to school sounding strange. Lol. Pretty much everyone was super understanding though, which was nice. At least you'll only have around 3 or 4 months left by that point. :)
