Can't move my lips correctly after wisdom teeth extraction

#1 Post by Ambrosia80 »

I had 3 wisdom teeth extracted 5 hours ago. The left side my face and tongue are still numb, but the right side is not numb at all anymore, BUT I cannot move the right side of my top lip. When I try to move my top lip up, only the left side goes up (I am making an Elvis face). When I try to close my lips, my top lip goes to the left, and my bottom lip goes to the right!! Help! Is this normal? Will it go away? Is it nerve damage? I have complete feeling/sensation on the right side, I just can't move it!

I tried googling this, and I only found 2 people saying the same thing, but they got no answers.

The right side of my face will move, just not my top lip on the right side. When I smile, it looks normal because my cheek pulls my lip up. But I can't move the lip by itself no matter how hard I try. I just want to close my mouth normally! I look like a muppet or something when I try to close my lips!

I'll post a pic if necessary..

My guess would be one of your follow-up nerve blocks grazed a trunk; it happens sometimes. Just be glad it didn't happen on the first injection! That smarts! Happened to me when getting a filling once...

That was really scary, but I guess I can laugh about it now! (And you can too, ha.)

I had to get a root canal in march and I had the same thing happen! My lips would close crooked just like yours did when I tried to close my mouth. I was kinda worried but it eventually went away.
