Geri's Braces Journey

#1 Post by Gerib »

And I am scared to death. I have almost every dental issue known to man, protrusion, over jet, etc. and the ortho says 31 months, then half way done see the surgeon for jaw surgery to correct the overbite fully.

I don't smile, and have mastered never showing my teeth when I smile. I'm more than ready for this.... So why the issue? Is it normal?

Thank you... I'm all prepped and ready and have every dental supply someone said might help so I should be good to go. Hubby thinks the anxiety could be that I worry over everything. I know some are depressed when they first get banded, and that some people don't like the result. Just have to keep reminding myself baby steps.

I think it's normal to be scared before getting them on... There are a lot of questions... Will it hurt? Will they work? Will I be able to stand having this stuff in my mouth? I think everyone runs through the same questions over and over. I am only 5 weeks in, but am super excited that I decided to go ahead with them... I take weekly pictures to journal the small changes (yes, I have noticed movement already) and look forward to the end result :)

Congrats on the journey!

It seems normal that some ppl might be scared but, hopefully you'll see that it's not as bad as you thought it would be. I was actually excited to get mine on. The only disapointment I had was that when I went in for my bonding appointment the doc decided that I would have to wait another month for the bottoms to go on. Good luck and congrats!

Piece of cake....just make sure you start out with soft foods until you feel more confident and comfortable about what you are able to eat. Don't push it....like you said...baby steps. You will do great!

Congratulations on making your decision and embarking on the journey.... which may not always be easy but definitely worth it!!! This site is a gold mine of information and inspiration - there are quite a few of us here with daunting lists of almost every dental issue which we are finally "facing up to" Thank you for posting - it's encouraging to know that we aren't alone....

I did it! He put rubber bands on today too is that normal?

And someone let me know my photo is ok. I don't have editing software on my iPad to crop it so I used photo booth to blur it.

Your photo is sideways, but otherwise fine.

And there really isn't any "normal" time for elastics to go on. They can be used at all different phases of treatment.

Ty guys! It shows right for me, but maybe I took it sideways? I've never used photo booth before. I'm going to use the laptop to start a thread to keep photos on as I progress.

Yay! You did it!!! See it wasn't that bad was it?

FYI: You should be able to crop ur pics on the iPad right from the camera roll. Just open the pic and you should see and edit option. Tap it and then you'll get some quick editing tools, crop included ;)

OMG Gerib, you look so cute with your braces! You already have a beautiful smile! Congratulations! Of course you were nervous and anxious about it. It's a huge commitment too. That kept me away for years, but I decided I had to buck up already and I"m glad I did. I am about 4 1/2 mos in and seeing so many great changes! good luck on your journey! you'll be so glad you did it in the end!
