How much do you pay for your wax?
I use a ton of them and was wondering if anyone knows where I can get them cheaper than a dollar a piece?

How about your ortho? Mine was always asking if I needed anything. Even if you still need to buy some, it can cut the cost down.

He gives me three little strips.. Lasts me two .. Three days max.

Wow! I'm almost 8 months in and haven't even finished one container of wax. I feel so bad for you guys!!!!
I've only seen it at CVS, no other drug stores around here...

You have to buy it?!?! Mine hands me like 5 containers of it with 5 strips in every container every time I go. I have a collection of it (too bad you're not in Australia or I'd post you some!). To buy it here is about $5-$6 AUD for the same amount.
Re: How much do you pay for your wax?
Yes.. I was given 1 container with 4 strips.. And when I went back, they gave me three strips... So I just buy it..
Re: How much do you pay for your wax?
I have quite a collection - 20 small cases with 5 strips in each the last time I counted. My ortho gives it to me every time. I'm trying to get her to stop. I think I've used 1 case (5 strips) in the last 10 months. Sorry, but I'm in Japan and it would be rather expensive to send it to you.
Re: How much do you pay for your wax?
You have a really cheap orthodontist. The only time I've ever had to buy some is if I was traveling somewhere and forgot mine.
I think a lot of orthodontists are not very good businessmen/women. Like many amateur small-business owners, they view every dollar spent as a dollar they aren't taking home. While a year's worth of orthodontic wax for an entire practice can add up, it's just petty to make patients pay, especially when an ortho buying it hundreds at a time can get it for so much cheaper than patients.

I am really lucky to only ever needing it the first two months. I always got it free from my ortho but I was also offered some at my regular dentist's during one of the cleanings. Ask them, they might be able to give you some too.

I needed wax periodically throughout my treatment. At times, I used tons of it. I'd go through those little ortho-wax boxes like crazy.
My favorite is Mack's silicone ear plug wax. It is $5-6 for a large box. The silicone wax pieces are ear sized. I'd get 3-4 'portions' out of each one. I think there are about 20 pieces in each box. That makes at least 60 uses in a box. I found this to be the softest and most effective wax for my needs as well. I know it sounds weird when I mention ear plugs. They are just larger pieces of silicone. This is the same wax as the orthodontic silicone pieces.
If you are looking to order some bulk orthodontic wax, dentakit.com might be a good place to start.

You are welcome. You know, I found out about the Mack's from another participant here a couple years ago. I love how these boards are great for sharing what we have learned.

There is a website http://www.plaksmacker.com/
I think its like a dental office supply place. Anyway the free stuff I got when I got my braces on came from there. You can buy wax in bulk for like 39 cents each. The only problem is you have to buy it like 50 things of wax at a time. If you don't need that much, it might be a problem though you might be able to get rid of it if you know others nearby who have braces. I got like 50 of them, but I expect it to last my whole time I have braces or at least come close. There is 5 strips in each box.

Re: How much do you pay for your wax?
I got a ton of silicone wax (and regular wax) from my orthodontist when I first got braces, and I also bought 10 packs of silicone wax from Amazon. I paid about $1 each at that point, but my orthodontist told me to stop by any time I needed more.
I go through about six strips (or one pack) a day, because I have Incognito lingual braces and I'm still really sore. I don't reuse them, because ain't nobody got time for that. I'm about to order in bulk, which will be 50 packs for $34. I'm hoping that by the time that I run out, I won't need the stuff any more. (I live and work about 40-50 minutes round trip from my orthodontist, otherwise I'd take him up on his offer. I'd rather just buy it.)
When you guys are talking about wax, are you talking the awesome silicone stuff, or the dreadful crumbly old school stuff?
