i am really not happy with my orthos plan for my bottom arch. the problem is i am on aligner 11 top and bottom. very satisfied with the top. i had extractions as a teen with my first ortho treatment which left my upper midline off to the left and my lower off to the right. my orthos plan is to move my lower arch further to the right so that my lower lateral and central righ incisor will match up with my central incisors on top (is that clear?) in other words he is moving my lower midline FURTHER OFF so that he can get something to line up. this will leave my left lateral lower canine way off in the right in my mouth and then he wants to reshape that leaving me with only a right canine essentially (argh).
i dont think this will look that great, and i would rather just have the bottom arch as good as it could be and as close to what nature intended, even if i dont have spaces line up top and bottom.
i brought this up and he just kinda said this is the way i am doing it.
i am seriously considering changing orthos. what would you do?
any advice
chris

Hi Chris,
I can understand your tandry! One of the questions that went through my mind while I was reading your post was if he lines those teeth up, how will your bite change and will it be healthy? I definetly agree that having a midline off would probably bug me too. Maybe ask your ortho what will happen to your bite by doing this and what would happen to your bite by not doing it and make your decision. The reason I'm concerned about bite is cause if that ends up really off it can make you more suseptible to TMJ and wearing teeth down and such.
Also remember you can always get a second opinion if there is another Invisalign ortho in town. In the end its your money and your mouth and you have the right to be happy with the results. Granted it may cost you more but it could definetly be worth it in the long run! If you have any questions about switching orthos let me know cause I switched just recently. Good luck!!

Hi Chris,
When I started Invisalign I never even thought of bite either. It wasn't until recently that I looked at my back teeth and was amazed at what I saw. Also because my bite is all wacky now, my lower arch (which I finished in Invisalign 2 yrs ago) will not stabilize so if I didn't do anything I would be dependent on a retainer every night for the rest of my life. If I gave up on the retainer my lower arch could end up worse than it started out as. YIKES!!!
My first ortho refused to finish my case using traditional means which is one of many reasons I left. It became obvious that he was only worried about a cosmetic result (which granted was my only concern in the beginning) and just came up with all sorts of fibs to try and convince me that my teeth would fix themselves in the end. In the end I made the right choice to leave because even if he had been willing to finish my case with braces to get a good result, I had absolutely no trust in him.
As for money, it did cost me a lot to leave. I think each case is different. My new ortho has been really nice figuring out cost and payment plans, etc. The old ortho though has been a jerk regarding a refund. He wrote me a letter stating that even though my case isn't complete he doesn't feel I deserve getting a refund of what I paid for treatment (I was only asking for 20% of it back since I was 80% threw the aligners). He did give me what he said the retainer for my upper arch would of cost. How nice
Given that my treatment contract did not relate the time of treatment to the cost of treatment his argument doesn't hold weight so I'm thinking about legal action. I hate to do it, but after everything I do deserve more than what a retainer would cost.
