Is there anybody who had problems with brackets on crowns

#1 Post by Rockskier »

I have heard conflicting stories about brackets being placed on teeth with crowns. I am getting metal brackets on all my teeth in April. My orthodontist did not think that would be a problem, but another one (who I had an initial consultation with) said the crowns sometime break when removing brackets. Has anybody had problems with crowns breaking when metal brackets bonded to the teeth were removed?

I have metal brackets on a half dozen crowns or more. No one ever mentioned this.

God I hope not. I've got 9, but 1 already popped off. I've had trouble keeping them on...I can't imagine the crown would crack when the brackets are removed, they seem to just pop off all the time.

My only problem has been that I've lost brackets off of my crown twice now. The surface can sometimes be a bit more difficult to get the brackets to stay on than the normal tooth enamel.

I have one crown but both my ortho and dentist said it should be fine. However, another tooth that is heavily restored has lost its bracket once. My ortho said that she will put a band on this tooth if it pops off again. I also have 2 teeth with porcelain fillings. Both these teeth will be banded since my ortho said the stress from the brackets would damage the fillings. If it still happens, my dentist said she will replace them free of charge.

Brackets pop off crowned teeth more easity as they can't get a grip on the surface. Depending on the tooth the ortho may band it or may just have to keep sticking the bracket back on. My sister had no enamel on 1 tooth and so she had a cron on that tooth. She said that it was annoying to have to go back 4 times during treatment to get the bracket stuck back on (it as a lower canine so not banded) but it never cause more of a problem than that. I've never heard of it doing damage to the crown though - did the ortho say why he though that?

Echo what everyone else is saying. My bracket has popped off both of my crowns, and now I am awaiting banding of one of them so this doesn't happen again.

I have one crown, and I asked my otho if a bracket would be placed on that crown, and she said yes, it needs to be replaced.
Eventually my crown will be replaced with something more modern (I had that crown put on when I was twelve) so I'm not worried about it.

Mine popped off twice before my ortho banded the crown. Fortunately it's my second to last tooth from the back. :)
