Good idea! Definitely eat a sandwich and enjoy the fact that the bread doesn't turn into glue on your brackets :P

And an ice block! Have one of those and pay attention to the fact that you can bite into it instead of having to just suck on it!

Thanks for the advice! Man I love a good sandwich. I better get a bunch in this week! (forced) Diet starts the 8th!!

Ice block=ice cube???
Eat a toasted cheese sandwich too ;) Cheese melts and seems to turn into superglue.

Ice-block = popsicle? Ice pop? Flavoured drink thingy that is frozen in a plastic tube.

Potato chips are a disaster to eat, always getting stuck in the brackets.

Special K! That breakfast cereal? Oh dear gah! It turns into a sticky kind of superglue that surrounds your brackets and dynamite isn't going to blast that stuff out of there!!!

I'm starting to get really worried when I read postings like this. I have not encountered any problems like this but now I'm worried that I'm going to go in for my first adjustment in two weeks and they're going to tell me that they can't open any of the gates on my braces because they're all clogged up with plaque. All I do after I eat things (even things like potato chips) is go into the bathroom and brush my teeth. If I'm having anything stuck like "super glue" in my brackets, I am completely unaware of it. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for? How would I even be able to tell something like this? Can anyone give me any advice? Thanks!

I haven't had any problems with toasted sandwiches. The worst problem I've had was with spinach - totally wrapped around and knotted to the bracket on my 2nd molar. Brushing, flossing, waterpik nothing worked. I spent ages with a tooth pick unknotting it.

Mmm, I'm also wondering what an ice block is.

My self ligating brackets aren't too bad. The bottom one's are the one's that seem to get everything stuck in them. It doesn't help that I have a mini powerchain thing (kind of like the o-rings) stretched in a figure 8 from the back bracket to the next one along. They seem to collect most of the food.

My kids tell me an ice block other than a popsicle is sometimes called an iced lolly?

Yeah - iced lolly, I understand! The joys of international communication, even when we are all speaking the same language!

LOL! Flipflops, I take it. I learned the hard way that a "rubber" does not mean an "eraser" in American English.

Yup! Flip flops! Sandals seems to be another confusing one. And lmao at rubber. We call them rubbers here too (erasers that is!).

Ahhhhh reading all these posts I'm realising what a big adjustment this is going to be. :(

I'm going to savour what I assume will be my last burrito for a long time tomorrow. And bread, can't live without bread. Yikes! We're having ribs for tea tomorrow night, probably also the last time for a long time. Hmmmm

Yes, but just think! You can have your FILL of all the scrambled eggs you can eat, not to mention oatmeal and yogurt!! So much to be excited for! Seriously, it really isn't all THAT bad. You'll see. Just a few more days to go, right? Your brace date is January 7th, right? So, check in with us after your appointment is finished and let us know how it went. I'll be thinking of you. :flowerbloom:

Kiwibug: Don’t worry too much. If you’re lucky you can eat everything, just a little less 2-3 days after adjustments (I once eat tacos the day after upgrading from round wire to rectangular and even though they were very sore I was not letting that stop me from eating my fav. food   but if I had a power chain on too then I'm sure tacos would be too much ).

Since I got my braces I have been eating everything. Biting raw fruit and vegetables (apples, carrots etc) with my frontteeth, eating popcorn, caramel, chewing hard candy and so on…

My ortho thinks I’m super good with my braces “you keep them so clean and do not break them” but the truth is that I must be one of his worst pt when it comes to eating. I might have been too lucky with these braces, that they are still there despite that I keep eating all the no-no-food. I’m just like those rebellious teenagers
Don't recommend you to do this at all of course but it shows that you can still eat with braces

Good luck on your big day!

Kiwibug, don't worry, I still eat all those things! They're just a nightmare to clean out of the braces (I won't mention the lamb shank I ate the other night and how long it took me to clean all that off :P).

Ebony, lol, my daughter still eats everything too, even pork crackling at Christmas and so far, 10 months in, there's not been a problem (other than the ortho telling her how great she's doing  ).
