Here we go...

#1 Post by Barb E »

I made a few posts back in April when I first started talking to my dentist about my teeth (One of those posts has a "nutshell", I'll go find it in a minute and post it as a comment) and now here it is August and it's finally starting.

I had just seen all the doctors I need to see (Orthodontist, Oral Surgeon and Dentist) when I was hit with an RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis) flare and had to put everything on hold due to taking Prednisone.

I'm finally off the Prednisone and have scheduled my root canal (broken tooth that is going to be extruded) and my implant removal (this freaks me out pretty good) and then I'll have to wait 2 months after the implant is removed and then I'll start the braces process - around the first of December.

Excited and scared all rolled into one!
The nice thing about being old and getting braces is I don't care what it looks like :biglaf: when the braces are on - in fact wish I didn't have to wait 2 months after the implant removal since that tooth is right next to the one that is snapped off at the gumline and so it's going to look like I'm missing 2 teeth for a couple months.

And so - there you have it.

I'll be 52 when the braces go on and in 2.5-3 years and a kazillion dollars later I'll have a perfect bite and hopefully top teeth that will no longer break off!

In the mean time, thank you in advance for all the information I'm going to find here in the next couple months!!

Long story - short version:
Dentist believes top teeth breaking because of my over bite, broke a canine last week (3rd tooth to break since 1994), tooth appears to be healthy on visual and x-ray 'cept for the fact it only comes to the gum line now.
Suggested seeing an Orthodontist about correcting my bite and pulling down that canine for restoration.

Wow, no kidding about the overbite! Do you know how many millimeters and what your overjet is? Are you class I or II skeletal?

To be honest Glandyover I have no idea what those questions even mean - though I think my overjet is minimal - my teeth do not stick out, they fit very nicely over my bottom teeth.

What it looks like if I just peel back my lip-There really are bottom teeth under there :-*

If I put the bottom of my top teeth against the top of my bottom teeth - look at all that space between my molars!!

I asked decades ago about correcting my bite but was told that my jaw would have to be broken and wired and so I didn't ask about it again for 30 years!
Now it's no broken jaw

Wowzers. My overbite is about 4mm but I can still see my lower incisors when I close my mouth. Your ceph is interesting after seeing mine and thinking I had a big overbite.

Yeah, it's quite the overbite I have - since I'm old as dirt these types of bites often were not corrected back in the day when I was young since my teeth were/are straight!
