Hi Angel,
That looks like great progress in closing your diastema. Glad to hear your deep bite is also making progress. Have you got used to your biteplate now?
All the best

Re: Angel269's Story
Angel, I was wondering if you can tell me if you had any speech pronunciation problems caused by the gap in your teeth? I have noticed that I can no longer say a proper "f" or "th" because the air goes right through the space in my teeth. I am also having a lot of trouble saying "s", "c" and even "x" but this is mostly because of the space on the right side of my mouth left by the extraction. So saying words like "fith" and "face" are very difficult. No one has commented on this yet so I'm not sure if it's just me being hyper aware. I was just wondering if anyone else with a large diastema has encountered a similar problem. I assume that this problem will go away once I've closed the diastema with my braces. Once that's finished, I can get a partial denture to close up the two spaces from the extractions. I don't think I can get that, though, until my braces are finished because my teeth will be changing shape during treatment and the partial denture would no longer fit.
Can anyone comment on this for me?

Re: Angel269's Story
As a child I did have speech therapy-my problems were with "f" and "v". It is barely heard now as I think I have just dealt with it (I must have been about 6 at the time and am now 24).
My speech has been bad with my bite plate that is to do with the bite plate and having to readjust to that-th,s & x been really bad with that!
On another note since my powerchain was put on yesterday afternoon I have had movement-A space has appeared to the right of my right front tooth so it must be working it's magic already and my diastema is closing! Down side that these front teeth are just very tender (Just viewing it as a positive and that things are progressing!)

Hi Angel,
Thanks for responding to my question. I am hoping that after I get my braces and close my diastema that my speech problems will resole themselves. I guess I'll probably have to wait until I get the partial denture to close the spaces left behind after the extractions.

Wow! Your progress is amazing in such short time. I think you will be debraced before the 9 month estimate. Looking forward to more pics

Re: Angel269's Story
Agreed! Your teeth are beautiful! You just have 2 that need a little rearranging!
I think you shouldn't feel so embarrassed but I totally understand that you are your biggest critic. Don't feel so bad, soon you'll be wanting to smile so you can show your pearly's off.
I've had mine now for almost 3 months (top & bottom) and finally eating is back to normal. When eating with people or at work, and in anticipation of knowing no matter what I eat something will get visibly stuck, I always humorously announce not to watch me eat. I try to laugh it off to prevent those embarrassing moments. I also carry a toothbrush & travel mouthwash in my purse and make it a point to excuse myself right after I'm finished eating.
I have woken up with sore cheeks before & my suggestion is a large lump of wax before you go to bed.
You've made great progress so far! Keep posting!

Re: Angel269's Story
Thanks for all the lovely, kind comments. They are looking so much better to me I just can't wait for the diastmema to close though!
I have been embarrased by my teeth for years but my phobia held me back from doing anything about it (well finances didn't help!) and I can't wait for them to be sorted and that way I will be a different person-I think people think I am stuck up or rude because I don't talk to people or smile.
Today they are still a tad tender but I will be going back on 22 for my second (actual) adjustment-I am hoping that something will be done about this powerchain so that I will no longer have a loop in the middle of my two front teeth
I am a bit conscious of it, as it is giving this brace away when no one was spotting it before, seems as though people are drawn to it

Re: Angel269's Story
Hi Angel,
I totally understand what you mean when you say you have been embarrassed by your teeth for years. Me? I've only been dealing with this problem for a little while but I also feel VERY embarrassed by the way they look. Last week I was in the grocery store and ran into someone I had not seen for a long time and we were talking and then all of a sudden she said, "Dee, what happened to your teeth?" I was just mortified mostly because I had been telling myself that they were not that noticeable. I mumbled, "It's a long story" and then I pretty much just left. I have barely been out of my house since then. So, that coupled with the new addition of this lovely speech impediment and lisp has just about undone me.
Did you post any new photos of your braces with the power chain attached? I don't remember seeing any. I'm very glad to know that you are seeing such dramatic movement. It must be such a relief for you. Gives me hope and courage.

Re: Angel269's Story
Dee the last photos I put were top one with powerchain which is tooth coloured (if u look carefully you will see the loop between my two teeth) with the bottom picture as my starting one days after braces first went on.
I'm just conscious that people probably thought "her teeth are awful how come she left them like that" (pre braces)-I was too embarrassed to fess up about my previous extreme dental phobia. I just can't believe that I'm doing something about it after outrightly refusing about the age of 10, as well as the fact that I've overcome my extreme dental phobia and found someone I can trust to carry out my ortho work-I know the end is in sight and confidence will be in the very near future

Hi Angel,
Thanks for that info. Yes, I see it now. Your teeth are going to look so beautiful when you're all finished with your treatment.

Hey Angel,
Your teeth are coming along great!! Powerchains work really quick. I know I will have to have them on the bottom where I had the extractions done so hopefully my extractions sites will close quick with them!
