How often do you see ortho after braces off?

I was wondering what happens after the braces come off and you pick up your retainer as to how often you go to see your ortho.
In my contract I am covered to see my ortho until the 6 month mark after braces come off.
So what happens after that? will I need to schedule other appointmetns every couple of years to see him to check the retainer and see if teeth have moved?

I guess it depends on the ortho. Mine saw me for a year after I'd been debanded then I was left to my own devices. Four plus years on, I went in yesterday for fresh moulds for a new retainer (mine broke a couple of days ago) and he checked me over while I was in there. I was told I'd be getting a reminder in 10 months' time for another check - that will be at the five year mark post debanding.

I went after three months, six months and a year, then he said to call him if I had any problems or need to get a new retainer.

At our clinic we take them in each year as long as the pt wants to. They have about 2-3 visist the first year to see that things are going well.
