Severe jaw situation?

#1 Post by riggiocrspagirl »

Hi guys! My name is Ashley. I'm 19 years old (though everybody thinks I look 14!). Anyways, I have a unique situation. My top jaw is like 3 times too small and narrow for my lower jaw. My mouth is very tiny. Because my upper jaw is so tiny, I have much crowding and my two front teeth have been pushed forward and turned into a "v" shape AND the teeth that are supposed to be next to my two front teeth are COMPLETELY hidden behind my front teeth.(I think those are called incisors??) It's very ugly to me and I've always hated it. Not to mention self conscious about it especially when people see me and say "you know you have teeth behind your front teeth, right?" makes me upset sometimes, ya know?
But that's only one reason why I'm wanting to change this. My career choice is a big one. I've loved broadcast meteorology since I was 13 and it just happens to be one of those careers where beauty is a must. Go figure. Soooo the main reason why I am doing this is to be as flawless and beautiful as I possibly can for my dream career.

I have seen my orthodontist numerous times this year and I am scheduled to have the SARPE soon. (surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion) surgery soon to widen my upper jaw so it actually fits my lower jaw. My SARPE surgery is now going to happen on the 19th of March and I have my pre-op physical on the 29th of February! Luckily, my lower jaw is fine. NO deformities there and my teeth on my bottom jaw are fairly perfect. THEN of course I get braces for like 1.5-2 years and all of the fun stuff that comes along with that. As of right now I have my spacers in to make room for the exander that I will be wearing soon. I have tried on my expander last thursday but with my luck, turns out it doesn't fit because the bands that the expander was cemented to don't slide all the way up around my teeth so the expander wasn't able to fit my mouth correctly. I get my new expander this thursday. *sighs* hopefully this one works. I know the entire journey I'll be going through and I'm just trying to stay optimistic and hopeful. (hoping my insurance will cover this surgery in full as well but that's a different story) By the way, my new expander does fit and it's definitely not too bad. No major issues with speaking or anything but I only wore it for about a half hour so maybe that's why.
anyways,
that's my situation. Probably seems at least a little severe right?

In all honesty, not that severe. A lot of people here have had to have SARME and then bimax surgery, and/or expansion of both upper and lower jaws. It always seems like your situation is so terrible and unique, but all of us here are in the same boat!

Just think that the surgery isn't that major, but will get you a great result and all be worth it. Good luck
