If you are planning to get dental or facial implants as part of your orthodontic treatment (or if you already have implants) you can discuss them on this forum.

Will Sliding Genioplasty Improve the Situation?

#1 Post by nyt500 »

Hi,

I need lower mandible advancement surgery due to an over bite of approximately 12mm I believe. My bottom teeth do lean out slightly lessening the gap between my top and bottom teeth. The need for surgery is mainly for cosmetic reasons.

However several orthordontists have turned me away due to my age which is 47 years old.
They have all told me to see a plastic surgeon for the solution.

Of course nothing can be easy and two plastic surgeons have told me I would benifit for lower mandible advancement surgery.

The plastic surgeons will however do sliding genioplasty.

Can someone please explain if sliding genioplasty will improve my look?

Looking foward to your reply..

Thank you

It'll probably improve your facial esthetics but it won't address your skeletal/bite issues. See some oral surgeons, if you have a legitimate dentofacial abnormality they should be able to treat you and refer you to an ortho. Your age shouldn't be a concern either, there are people in their 60's and 70's who've had orthognathic surgery.
