Anyone have issues with dry mouth?

Anyone have issues with dry mouth?
I've had my braces 7 weeks and my mouth is always so dry now, especially at night. I'm paranoid that it's giving me bad breath so I'm constantly brushing my teeth throughout the day. I do drink lots of water which helps a little, but the night time is the worst. I should also mention I have turbo bites on my molars so I can't bite down all the way. I wonder if this is causing the problem. They come off on Monday the 14th, THANK GOD! There is a new mouthwash for dry mouth that I'm thinking of trying, but I'm waiting to see if the removal of the turbo bites solves the problem.
Just wondering if anyone else gets dry mouth?

I only got my braces yesterday, but yes, it seems like my mouth is dry all the time. Water (and carmex for my lips!) has been great. Sleeping is not so comfortable. :P

I can definitely say I am experiening the same thing and it's worse during the night. I now have a big bottle of water on my bed side cabinet every night and I wake up multiple times to drink some to lubricate my mouth. It's rather annoying and like you I worry it's not so great for my breath
.
The amount of water I have been drinking since being in braces should mean my skin would be flawless! (it isn't lol). I drink water quite a bit throughout the day too, to remove bits of food from my braces if I cannot brush right away.
Another thing that can dry out your mouth is mouthwash that contains alcohol.

I found that Breathsavers work really well in taking care of this problem. I keep them everywhere, in my purse, in the car, at home, at my desk...
I wasn't a regular user of Breathsavers but I have been hooked since being braced. If you have a warehouse store like Costco, you can buy 24 packs for $10.00,

I have been suffering a dry mouth off and on for nearly 12 months now..grrr
I dont think my mouth likes braces, its always worse when my teeth are moving. Drink plenty of water and keep your mouth clean. This helps me, good luck

Re: Anyone have issues with dry mouth?
I have had problems with dry mouth for years because of some medications I take, but with braces, it's worse because my lip seems to stick onto them when they're especially dry. And then when I try to drink some water, my lip won't detach itself and I end up spilling some out one side of my mouth. Anyway, there is Biotene, the mouth wash specifically for dry mouth, but I haven't tried it because my mouth is really sensitive and I think it might burn. I've tried OraMoist dry mouth patches. It's actually more of a tablet that you stick on the roof of your mouth or the inside of your cheek. It works, but it kind of tastes like paper, and I think it lasts much longer than the 2-4 hours it says on the box. I'm not sure I really like them, but I also hate carrying a bottle of water everywhere I go. Hopefully, something will help you. Good luck!

Thanks for all the mouthwash advice. I will definitely check these out. I currently use Listerine which has alcohol, so that probably isn't helping. The ortho didn't take my turbo bites off yesterday because my front teeth are still hitting the bottom
, but I'm beginning to think they aren't the cause of the dry mouth anyway since many of you have the same problem. I guess it's just the braces.

Biotene dry mouth spray really helps me - I have severe dry mouth. I have been drinking so much water since getting wired sometimes I feel like I could float away!! This stuff if a minty-tasting spray with NO burn, and it helps to moisturize. Of course, it only helps a few minutes after you use it. I'm looking for other ideas, too...

I've noticed my mouth is very dry all the time now too. I've only had my braces about a week and a half. I have the bite blockers also, but I thought mine might be due to my toothpaste. (My ortho gave me prescription toothpaste). However, since all of you are having the same problem, I'm sure it's just the braces. My mouthwash helps for a couple of hours but then my mouth drys out a lot. I get really self-conscious talking to people because I'm sure the dry mouth cannot be good for my breath.
I'm drinking a lot of water but I think I need to drink more.

Yes!! Awful... especially in the mornings when I wake up. I chew gum (sugar free) this helps me make saliva and it helps. Of course make sure it's ok with your ortho first. Mine says gum is ok as long as it is sugar free and is not sticking to anything.
