BSSO to increase intergonial distance?

#1 Post by Neverloved »

My problem (well, one of them) is that I have a wide mandible but a high ramal taper and no flaring at the gonial angle, in effect giving the strange apearance that my jaw too wide at the top, too narrow at the bottom, and too rounded...well everywhere.

I remember reading that a BSSO could reduce the tapering of the ramus and help flare out the gonial angle. Has anyone had this done?
I had an X-ray done of my jaw the other day in preparation for my consultation with the maxfac and ortho next month, and it turns out my gonial angle isn't actually so obtuse as I thought, so my problem is probably more due to what I mentioned in this post.

Can someone offer some info about the possibilities with a BSSO?

Disregard what I said. Having looked at all of the X-rays and photographs I've had taken, I've realized that the problem is that my gonial angles are flared INWARD rather than outward. It's blatantly obvious when looking at my face from below

Is this a common deformity? I'm thinking permanent filler might solve the problem without resorting to more implants, since 2-4mm makes a huge difference. Has anyone here had any luck with that?

not trying to be rude, but stop googling and go to a doctor.

Easier said than done. It's not all that easy to get a fast appointment with a good plastic or maxillofacial surgeon, especially now we're approaching the holiday season. I have a consultation on the 10th and hope to eventually see several doctors to get some second opinions, but that takes time.

I thought this forum was for asking questions so that people with similar problems can share and discuss what their doctor has told them?

Google is no help, which is why I'm not using Google.

Wish I could help but I have no idea what you are saying?!?! If you asked the question in English that would be helpful! :)
