Ibuprofen or Tylenol and patience. A cold treat, such as ice cream may also help dull the pain temporarily. Spacers aren't fun for anyone, but take solace in the fact that they'll be removed soon!
I'm the owner/admin of this site. Had ceramic uppers, metal lowers ~3 years in my early 40's. Now in Hawley retainers at night!

wait till tomorrow if you think they are painfull now it will be worst later. I had them for a month and it was painfull for 2 weeks. I would suggest tylenol as my orthodontist told me that ibuprofen such as motrin was slowing teeth movement which is actually what is happening in your case with the spacer.

Not that it is any consolation but my ortho said that spacers are by far the most painful part of orthodontic treatment. Your teeth move fairly quickly, hence the pain. My pain dissipated after a few days. In fact after about 2 weeks my teeth had moved so much (which is not a lot) one of my spacers actually fell out. Tylenol and aAeve are all good. Hang in there.

ceramic vs. metallic braces

thanks for the tips everyone..
im actually much better now, and dont have much pain with the spacers. Now the big day is tomorrow.
My dilemma, is whether i should get ceramic or silver braces?!
The ceramic will cost me $700 more. .
Thoughts anyone? =)

Ceramic braces are white and less visible and tougher. Silver braces are... well silver. In any cases people will see them anyway so I wouldn't really bother unless you orthodontist suggest them to you. In my case i have ceramic brace on the top braces and will have silver on the bottom.
