Hi Gracey, just saw your replay on my story today. I have no idea why I don't get email notifications but thanks! Our cases look similar a lot. Do you also have the radiance brackets? I saw a lot off progress on your pictures, definitely necessary for dealing with to things on your teeth Smile

About people who think we don't need it: since I have them, they all see progress and most reactions were positive. Even if I am the only person who thinks I need them, its enough for me. I remember my ortho asked me on my first visit: Do you want braces? Duh!

Good luck with the braces. I'll try to post some new pics soon!

dutchess,

Thanks for your reply. I know, there isnt any notification on new messages or anything. You teeth has definitely progress! Keep up the good work!

Im trying to upload the pic which I have failed several times in the main forum. I cant manage to make an appointment to address my concern about my upper arch getting narrower and gummier. I hope its just temporary and the gummy smile will disappear.Im thinking if i should also go on with the orginal plan with the expander.

Before and after pic. I might be self critical but Im noticing emptier space at the side:

I would like to know from everyone's opinion if it's my psychological thinking or is it really that my upper arch is narrower and more gummier ???

I find my pre-braces period smile (even though more protruding, from side view) is better than my smile now. Im not liking it and my orthon havent got time for my appointment yet.

The thought of this (narrower arch and gummier smile) by the end of the treatment is killing me!!! :(

I feel like my smile is a bit gummier at the moment too. But I know I'm still early on so I will wait it out to see if that's how things will end up. But I have read that gum contouring can be done at the end of treatment and that can help with that issue.

hey sarahlynn,

I just google on gum contouring and it appears to quite pricey. Im not willing to fork out another sum of money to fix a smile which appear to be better than befreo wearing braces ! :(

I just feel my teeth been pushed back and down, hence showing of the gum.

I dont know why the pic not able to display again!

This might just be a "gets worse before it gets better" stage. That seems to happen a lot at the beginning of the treatment.

Your smile is not gummy at all.
I think whatever difference you may be seeing is because you are smiling wider in the brace pics.

hi Ughbraces,

The ortho told me the same but I really dont think so. I have tried smiling briefly, less wider (wishfully thinking if smiling wider is the reason why im feeling my smile is gummier) but it cant hide the fact that its indeed showing more of my gum.

Been so depressed bout narrow arch and gummier smile and my next appointment is not till 2 weeks. Im happy the teeth is more alighned but the way it shows when i smile, im not pleased at all/

Updates

Time flies and its been four month since I put on braces! Seems like just yesterday!

Just a quick update of pic. I know mine is not serious case to begin with, but the progress im making, I\m happy! Midline is aligned, crossbite correcting, still bit to go, and even my front teeth are push back alittle, and I have gone for interproximal reduction yet!

Just waiting to ask doc if i should put on expander to expand that little bit and get the broad smile, maybe I dont even have to strip my teeth ! Updates

Nice progress, I also got braces at a similar time to you around July and I think I have similar problems to you. I got braces because I wanted to push my top teeth back, they were protruding in my side profile pictures. The dentist opted to not take any teeth out but I was willing to take 4 out. I'm scared it won't be pushed back and all the money spent on braces will be a waste, so I'm kind of opposite to you ahhaah. Now I look like I got angelina jolie lips which isn't good on a guy lol. From your pictures, to be honest you look like you have alot of teeth so taking 4 out won't be so bad (regards to your other post).

gracey82, your teeth are looking great - you have a beautiful smile! It doesn't seem gummy at all to me, but I know we look at ourselves closer than anyone else does :)

Awww thank you guys for the positive notes and encourgements ! :D

@BRACEYOURSELF! : Haha I know what you mean. I'm contradicting!Yes I want my teeth to be pushed back (actually I just came to realisation that i have bimax-protrusion, upper and lower jetting out.Pretty obvious from side profile) but fearful of dramatic changes, unsure if it ll be better or worst. At the same time, yes! YOu are right, I paid so much for so little change on my teeth. WOMAN! =) Do you have a before and after pics of yours, with your newly owned Angelina Jolie's lips ? ;)

@petitcanard, @againbrace : thanks for the word of encouragements, I think the gummy smile phase has passed! =) Now Im just deciding whether or not to get extraction. Wow Im not prepared or even decided on that!

Hi,
I'm curious if you decided to get extractions? My teeth story is very similar to yours and a couple other people here.. bi-protrusive teeth.

It's very interesting to see all the bends in your wires, etc.. did they straighten out by themselves or did they just change the wire out later and not bend them? My ortho never made bends like that to my wire.. she's doing it now, on a 2nd wire she put on top of the main wire on top.. but that is only to keep the molars in the back from tipping inward (i think).
