CAN I request a WIRE CHANGE? Getting really frustrated!!!!!

#1 Post by TLB in Minneapolis »

I am nearing the end of my treatment and I am in a retangular strong wire. It seems like I am the one telling him what teeth look 'off' and I have been in to my ortho 5 times in the last two months. He'll bend the wire, then a tooth will get way out of line, then he'll bend it back to where it was, then he had to bend it again because one front tooth got way shorter than the other, then just a couple days ago he bent it again because I saw one tooth that was still rotated, he agreed, and bent some wires in the back teeth. Even when his assistants look at my teeth, they see things and point them out, then he makes another bend. I want to be a active participant in my treatment, but I feel like he's the doctor and he should be seeing these things more. Nearly every tooth on my uppers has some configuration or bend. I have had this same wire since January. My teeth are constantly in pain, and now my bite seems way off. I don't know what to do?? I've never had bite problems in the two years I've had braces (or even before braces) and now I suddenly do two weeks before they are supposed to come off. I just feel that I didn't have all these dang bends my bite would go back to where is was supposed to be.

What I really want is a new wire so I can at least line things up to a "U" shape again. I am supposed to get debanded 5/13, however, I know that won't happen. I am not super picky but I don't want them off until I know they are ready. Any advice? What would you do if you were in my situation?? I have already paid in full. Can I just flat out say I want a new wire?? Should I consider changing orthos?
THANKS!!

I don't really understand this, my ortho always puts a new wire on at every adjustment and never bends the wire.

Thanks for your responses. My teeth still really hurt and it's been almost a week since he once again bent my wire. My wire literally has bends and minor twists all over. My bite is still off, last Friday he told me my bite would go back to normal once the braces are off. Not sure if I buy that. I've been taking 800 mg of ibuprofen since last monday and I'm getting so frustrated, I want to take this wire out myself just for some relief. I'm reaching my pain threshold here!

He said your bite would go back to normal after the braces were off? That doesn't sound right to me. I hope someone here with more knowledge than me will chime in about that.
I just got my finishing wire and for the first time, my ortho bent the wire in a couple of places. The tech had told me this would probably happen before I even saw the ortho. Seems like it might be a standard thing to do at the end of treatment to do some 'tweaking' but I'm not sure what to think about your situation.
Good luck with this.
