One of the ladies mentioned that I've have light wires on... And that I would probably be seen more often than usual..

I wish I understood the "what"s and "why"s of it all - though I guess I'll learn!

On Tueday, they'll also do the bonding on my back molars as well. :)

Oh and I just remembered...

The assistant said that I will end up having a pernament retainer placed on bottom, after treatment. She showed me what it looks like... Just a band of metal that goes on the inside of the front bottom teeth. She also said that I would have a removable upper retainer.

You and I will be braced on the same day! Congratulations! I had my back molars banded this week just as you did! I'm a teacher as well though my students are in middle school and high school. They're voting which color ligature bands I will get next week. You're really lucky to have had everything come together for you. I look forward to more posts!

I really do feel very blessed. It really is a dream come true for me - my impossible dream! :)

How exciting that we'll be braced the same day! How do the spacers feel? Mine aren't any kind of bother at all. I was worried after reading of how so many here are in all sorts of pain.

How fun to have your students involved in the whole process! Can they pick more than one color? *hahaha!!!* That ought to be really interesting!

Do you have a journal on here? I'll have to look!

What time is your appointment? Mine's in the morning! I'll definetely be looking to see how it went for you too! Good luck with it!!!

What a cool story and the comparison between that amazingly happy smile in the first pic and the angry mouth in the second says it all. Congrats on starting your journey. Looking forward to keeping up with your progress :)

Thank you so much Tom.

Taking those initial pictures was probably one of the hardest things I have done - to take and share them. Though I don't think that one could truly see and appreciate hwo far my teeth HAVE come or see why I'm SO beyond excited, without seeing the "starting line." :)

It's been something that always hurt the most. To wish so hard to have a mouth that didn't hurt, a smile that I didn't hide...

When I am braced (and even now, with teeth now missing, from the extractions!), I am smiling WIDELY.... I have a lot to be happy about!

Yes, dreams DO come true.

Never, ever give up on them. :D

This was an opportunity I thought I'd never see. I knew that I could in no way afford even a portion of the $$$ it would take just to get my mouth out of pain, let alone other restorative work or braces.

People are just AMAZING. To think of the time, effort and $$$$ the ortho, my dentist, and a team of other specialists are investing in all of this brings me to tears.

I wake up every day... Completely amazed all over again.

When I first got the initial call in the beginning, of this "gift", I was on the phone for HOURS with friends and family, bawling my eyes out...lol

I ate dinner last night without any problems. Breakfast this morning was fine, though when I went to eat lunch (terayaki chicken with rice!), I noticed that I couldn't chew on the left side of my mouth without it hurting. So, I played it safe and ate lunch on the good side.

I notice right now that a lot of the teeth on the bottom are sore and sensitive. Maybe because the spacers are nudging other teeth, therefore having the domino "nudge" effect?

I'm not sure, though they sure are mighty sensitive all of a sudden.

I have a small journal named MacGirl4Ever's Journal. My spacers were taken out this week so I now have molar bands on four of my second to the last back molars. My class is torn between hot pink "because it's cute", green "for St. Patty's Day" and blue "because it's _____'s favorite color". The final vote is on Monday. I only had my spacers in for three days but I had the same experience with sudden sensitivity. Just think, we only have two and a half days!!!

I totally understand. Younger kids have this kind of innocent curiosity, and it can even be funny when they ask about teeth in need of orthodontic attention... But older kids can be just plain mean.

Before I was braced, my boyfriend's 6 year-old niece asked about my "vampire fang" in front of my boyfriend's whole family, and I almost died of embarrassment, but instead I told her "It's just extra. I have too many teeth. I used to tell kids that I was half-vampire but they started getting scared." And she said "I wouldn't have been scared, you could have just told me!" It was so funny. But I remember when I was like 16 (I'm almost 22 now) and I threw my head back and laughed at a then-friend's funny joke, and he saw that same fang as it was just coming in and exclaimed "Oh god, what's wrong with your teeth?!" And thus began about 5 years of self-conscious smirking so as to hide my teeth... But no more!

Just remember, once you are braced, your teeth will NEVER BE CROOKED AGAIN! Whenever anyone says anything about your missing teeth, just remember that you will have a hollywood smile when your treatment is finished, and no one will be able to say anything except "Wow, your teeth are gorgeous!" Plus, in between now and the time you get debraced, your smile is going to be all a-glitter and aglow with shiny metal and flashy ligs- a girl's dream, mirite?! So let them stare!

:D Stay positive- this is an exciting time in our lives! And if there's ever a forum contest for "most improved smile" I can tell already you will win, hands down! Your smile is going to be gorgeous when you are finished, and I'm so excited for you!

I am SO excited that today is FINALLY here!!!!... :D

It snowed through yesterday, the evening and the night. I parked my car coming back from classes last night, so I can just pull straight out instead of trying to back up and getting stuck. Nothing's going to keep me from this appt!...

Did I mention I was excited?... :D :D :D

Looked in the mirror this morning and thought this is the last time I'll see my teeth naked.

I at a big fat sandwhich yesterday - I was craving sinking my teeth into it, and knew it would be the last time for a while that I could do that.

posted somewhere else, though when I typed it, it made me smile:

The spacers seem to not be a bother at all. I have pain in certain areas at random times, though overall it's been ok.

The other day I had terayaki chicken with rice for lunch with a friend. My mouth on the left side decided it didn't like the idea of being used at ALL... Darn spacers!..lol SO I just ate lunch on the other side.

Thankfully it hasn't generally for the most part hurt ALL over at the same time. On the rare times it has, I've just been careful for a bit.

For those of you who are anxious, be excited!!!! This is SUCH a special time in my life, that at age 30 (31 in April) I never EVER thought I'd see.

I've had major restorative work leading up to this and have spent a LOT of hours in the dentist chair. My mouth over the years was in SUCH horrendous pain, that I am REALLY excited about the step I am taking now and know that there is NO way it can come close to bothering or hurting me, then the pain I've been through up to this point.

I feel blessed to be able to go in today - and filled with hope and excitement of the smile yet to come, of which I cannot even imagine!!!!
