Thanks so much to everyone who replied. Its fantastic to read all these lovely messages in the morning, brightens my day no end.

My teeth are far from as white as these pics, all my images go through corel photo paint before i uploaded them so i can dial down the yellow a little, if anything this is how id like them to be when the braces come off.

Brika

itll get there, i spend the first 7 months of my treatment just trying to open enough of a gap to pull the pesky tooth through, it was a long 7 months of pushing and pulling, to make it worse as the gap gets bigger the gap becomes more noticable, to the point where you actually look like your missing a tooth. BUt as soon as the wires on there and its under pressure it flies out.

Hiya Rach, welcome, always love seeing newbies on here, have you taken time to start your own story post yet? photos? My advice to you is to take loads and loads of pictures now, eveytime something moves take pics, in the end youll cherish the journey pics. I do already. My teeth were a terrible mess, and now i look in the mirror and get all giddy in my belly :)

Jenny

What did you have done? how it all going for you?

My latest concern is my lower incisors. Because they were all iggled de piggledy for so long they have been subject to uneven wear and tear. Now the teeth are straight the tops of the teeth are not even with one another. This isnt a straigtening issue as the teeth are straight and level. But i was wondering if anyone out there had a similar issue and how it was resolved.

Big hugs....\o/

Sometimes the ortho will even the incisors with a little shaping (shaving them down with a sanding disk) or some will just leave that up to your cosmetic dentist. Mine just plans on leaving it.
Upper and lower 1st premolars extracted
Uppers braced 4/6/07 & Lowers braced 4/20/07
ceramic brackets and rectangular arch wires
Est. term: 30-36 months
De-banded: 3/04/09 w/ LBR and U&L Essix

After having 4 molars out, 2 infections, 2 years of brace treatment, and what will be a full cleansing and whitening at the end, replacement of metal fillings for white fillings, thousands of pounds of money spent, id personally like my 4 lower incisors tidied up. lol

Roll on this time next year lol

I dont have a cosmetic dentist yet, ive only just got a regular dentist lol.

Wow! Your teeth look incredible! I have a really narrow top arch that almost makes a V as well, and makes my face look very narrow. Its good to see how well your mouth has filled out when your teeth straighted out. Gives me hope :)
I've only had braces for a little over 2 months, but I can tell that its rounding out already, or at least trying to!

Wow Martin, incredible photos, you must be made up! I remember when you started your treatment and were so eager to see results.

Any idea when you'll be having them taken off?

I have another few month to go :)

Do you know how can I improve the appearance of my teeth using Paint shop pro or photoshop?

Thanks

Hey Martin, great thread, fantastic progress.
I am Kishore, and I noticed that you HAD a similar issue that I Have , with the lateral incisor pushed back, aka your EX nemsis tooth.
I am about to start my treatment and I am so scared, I often contemplate backing out in hopes of them coming through with an orthodontic revolution and your teeth can be fixed super fast and discreetly. That is not happening anytime soon though.
Great post dude
cheers

I am glad to see you back on the boards! You must be ex tactic about your movement! How much time left "behind bars"? I found out my surgery date and hopefully after surgery I will only be "behind bars" for 6 months. I can't believe it's almost been 1 yr!

ITS MY BRACEVERSARY

#281 Post by martinboyce »

Hi everyone,

I had my 12th adjustment yesterday, the approximate half way point for me through my treatment

So within one appointment my treatment has flipped from tooth augmentation to tooth relocation.

My front 6 teeth both upper and lower are effectively straight, but 3 of the 4 gaps that was created due to my extractions now need to be closed.

So the front teeth are secures there relative position using the criss cross thin wire technique while the largest wires i can get hold them all securely to the arch.

This in effect unifies their strength and can effectively act as an anchor to bring the rear teeth forward.

Bridging the gaps on my lower teeth is 2 links of power chain, which provide constant lateral pressure on the tooth guided in direction by the wire.

Now here is the fun bit!!!

The molars being the work horses of the mouth, and being predominantly responsible for mastication means the bite and the way the teeth meet is very important during the transitional phase. Not being able to chew on the back teeth would be a nightmare.

So to assist with the pulling action of the power chains and to keep my bite in order ive been introduced to elastics.

I now have elastics linking my upper canines to my lower 3rd Molar (well second molar if it gets demoted after an extraction)

My first impressions of elastics

Restrictive, painful, ugly & fiddly

They add an extra layer of responsibility to wearing braces, having to remove them for every meal and daily oral hygiene.

I can barely open my mouth without the feeling that they are pulling my teeth out.

In short ive had them less than 24 hours and im not very happy about them at all.

As im writing this im about to go home early from work as i cant talk right, cant eat right, and have pain all the way up to my ears. :(

i will of course post again when the pain has gone and ive figured them out for a more balanced over view of these lovely gummy bands!

And will post some photos (if i can open my mouth wide enough to get a photo)

Hi Martin,

First, Congratulations on your braceaversary!!! :-)o
It must be great to know you are half way there.
Sorry to hear about your horrible time with elastics - I dread the time when I have to wear them.
At least you know it'll all be worth it in the end. :D

Hey Martin,
Can't wait to see your next video, and welcome to the world of elastics. I've had them for about 4 months now and currently have the same configuration as you. They were very, very annoying at first, but you'll get used to them. Great progress BTW.

HAPPY BRACEVERSARY!!! :D

Did you know you are only 3 days behind me? Are the elastics going to fix your bite or just move some teeth? I forget if you said you were expecting surgery or not.

Congrats on reaching the halfway point! Sorry you get to "celebrate" by wearing those horrible elastics, though. :P They sound just dreadful! But it's great to hear you're moving on to a new "phase" of your treatment! One step closer to reaching the finish line!
