hello,
i am completing my first set of aligners. i know that teeth don't move that fast, but i am anxious to see something change. i can't imagine my teeth any other way after 26 years. as soon as i see something, i will feel better about having these things in my mouth. did anyone see change after the first set??
i have to have my wisdom teeth removed within the first 6 months of treatment to make room for movement. so until then, where could my teeth possibly go?
i am also worried about some unsatisfactory results i have read here and elsewhere. i just hope my treatment goes well.
question-does the orthodontist or the people at invisalign decide what the aligners will look like and where the teeth should move? does the competency of the orthodontist decide how well a treatment will turn out?
thank you
anxious about treatment

I can give a little insight into this question. As I was waiting for my appointment once, I was sitting next to a man who was using invisalign. The orthodontist that I see is VERY competant!!!!! This man was on his last alligner and the ortho said, "I'm not pleased at all with this end result". The man agreed and the orthodontist said that he would be calling invisalign to plan further treatment. Also was mentioned that treatment had gone on 6 months longer than expected. Though the man said he didn't really mind the extended time.question-...does the competency of the orthodontist decide how well a treatment will turn out?

I think the outcome is more determined by the compliance of the patient and how well that individual's teeth respond.
Keep us updated, I wish you GREAT SUCCESS!! Congratulations on taking this step!

There's a few of us here that didn't get perfect final results from Invisalign. Well, a few people got bad results after a few months of treatment. I just didn't get perfect results in the end. But the change from the beginning of the treatment till the end of Invisalign... wow what a difference! So don't worry about what you've read. Some peoples teeth don't respond well to invisalign, and some peoples teeth do.
So to answer your questions:
did anyone see change after the first set??
Nope. I didn't see a change for about 5 sets. Then it was very slight. Invisalign isn't very exciting during treatment because it moves everything so slow. If you've ever been to Invisalign's website and watched some of their patient treatment movies, you'll see what I mean. Usually, something is wrong with your front teeth and thats where you expect change at first, but with Invisalign thats where the change happens last.

I had to get my wisdom teeth removed within the first 6 months of treatment too. Right now, they may have some teeth to turn or push out rather than back. But if you want your treatment to go better, get those wisdom teeth out sooner than later. I waited too long (I was afraid of the surgery) and I'm pretty sure it adversly affected my treatment. My ortho never said it did, but I feel like if I had gotten my wisdom teeth out before treatment things may have gone better.
does the orthodontist or the people at invisalign decide what the aligners will look like and where the teeth should move?
They work together to choose the best treatment plan for you. Your orthodontist has to approve the treatment invisalign suggests, so your orthodontist has a major role in the treatment.
does the competency of the orthodontist decide how well a treatment will turn out?
Absolutely. He has to know when the aligners aren't fitting well, and knows the tricks to help them move teeth a bit better. He knows when you need to wear them for 3 weeks, or 1 week, or the normal 2 weeks. He's very important to the sucess of your treatment.
