Powerchains History?

#1 Post by NYG2007 »

I know a lot of people who had braces in the 90's and they stated they never had powerchains like I have now. Are powerchains fairly a recent development? I'd be interested in knowing that. Also, how did they close gaps if they didn't have powerchains?

Powerchains have been around since at least the mid-late 80's.

I must be in the minority here but so far power chains have done nothing for me. It was a spring and closing loops that closed my gaps and the power chain has been mostly a decoration, which is actually kinda nice because I didn't get much of a chance to pick lig colors so at least I've gotten to pick power chain colors. As far as the history goes, I'm not really sure, does anyone know the history of elastics? I didn't have braces as a kid but I knew kids who did and I don't remeber any of them having elastics--they seem relatively new to me too.

Elastics have been around a while. A kid at my school during the 60's had them to close extraction gaps.

That's interesting... What are powerchains used for? Only for closing gaps?

Danielle,

I too haven't noticed any gaps closing with the power chains, but that may because I have only had them for 20 days.

They can also be used to rotate teeth.
