Juliette's Brace Story--Updated pics 8/28/08--page 2

#1 Post by BraceMouse »

My b-day is set for July 8th, so I've decided to go ahead and post my story and "before" pics. I didn't think my teeth were so bad until I looked at these. Not the worse, but I can see why my treatment time is estimated at 18-20 mos. Lots to get done!

Here's the plan: Smart Clip ceramics on top, metal SL on bottom. "Disking" to create space and make my front incisors smaller. One bottom incisor extracted after brackets are on. Elastics to fix crossbite. Permanent retainer on bottom, removeable for top.
I will also have the bonding on my front incisor fixed after braces come off.

Thanks again for all the support. I'm not sure I'd have to courage to go through with this without all the great, unbiased info on this site! :D

Hey Juliette! Congrats on making the decision to get your self fixed up! I gotta say, I know your teeth look bad to you but I'm amazed how common the overlapping upper centrals are (that's one of my problems), and I also have some weird angles going on with my bottom four front teeth  So don't worry, you're not alone! These two years are gonna fly by and then we'll all have beautiful teeth!

Hi Nikki,

I was just looking at your thread--I'm getting the same tooth pulled that you did. I'm amazed at how many "lower cyclops" there are out there--proves my ortho right--people barely notice it.

hello there!

yes i have crooked lowers and one cainine that is sooo much lower than the rest. my boyfriend didn't even notice how bad it was untill i got braces on and there is no room to even put it in the wire yet! I'm on day two and its suprising how much you kind of get used to them. they aren't fun..and i feel like they draw WAY more attention to my crooked teeth, but at the same time thats only because I hid my teeth so well before (by NEVER smiling open).
so this is the first step to a new life! i can't wait to even smile with braces on as long as my teeth are STRAIGHT!

good luck!

Brittany

Oh haha I haven't had my teeth pulled yet  I actually don't even have a date yet for the extractions, but when the time comes I'll be saying bye-bye to two upper 1st bicuspids and two lower 2nd bicuspids, and good riddance because this overcrowding HURTS!

Tomorrow is B-day!

#7 Post by BraceMouse »

Hi everyone,

Thanks again for all the support. I had my impressions done last week and will have everything but the bottom wire put on tomorrow. My husband even said "you're really going to do this? You've been talking about if for so long!"

Here's the plan:
First thing tomorrow morning I go to orthodontist for IPR, top brackets (clear SL) and wire and bottom brackets (metal).
After (hopefully) eating lunch at my favorite bakery, head to dentist to have one lower incisor pulled.
Wed morning-back to ortho for lower wire.
I've stocked up on soup, pudding mix, rice, etc and my husband's braced for my whining.

Wish me luck! I'll send pics after I've got the whole set up on.

Hi Juliette,

Happy Birthday!!! Good luck with your appointment, you'll do great!!!

Just eat a good breakfast beforehand and take an OTC pain reliever about 30 minutes before your ortho appointment.

Keep us posted!

I am now part of the club!

#11 Post by BraceMouse »

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the well wishes! I am now fully braced on top, all brackets on the bottom and as of 1-1/2 hours ago, one tooth shorter. I also got molar build-ups (not sure what to call these.) I can't even think how to describe the feeling of all this stuff.
It really did help to know all I was in store for, in fact the assistant said she thought I might know more than her, and she's had braces!
My ortho did something really cool with the brackets--they were embedded in a reverse mold of my teeth, so they were able to pull all the top and bottom on at the same time instead of placing each bracket.
I was in and out in just over an hour.
My husband has been really sweet--he worked from home most of the day in case I need anything and even picked up some Gin and Tonic Water for my pain management. :)

I'll take some pictures tomorrow after I get the bottom wire on.

HAPPY B-DAY!!!!!

I'm 41 as well and my brace day was yesterday. I have molar buildups too. We should compare notes as we go.

Post some pics when you can! I hope you're feeling OK and not hurting too much.

HAPPY BRACEDAY!!!! I'm glad to hear that your hubby is being a sweetheart. :) That sounds so cool what your ortho did. I've never heard of that before.

Hey there, kindred spirit !

Hi Audra!

Congrats on your brace day(though 1 day late)!

Hubby has been good to me--brought me coffee in bed this morning (he NEVER does, drove me to ortho and dentist and keeps asking me if I need anything, though making fun of me now, after 2 G&T's) The extraction site finally stopped bleeding, so I had some tasty Butternut Squash Soup, Raspberry Jello and half a 3-Muskteers bar, and Pugs are cuddly==they are very perceptive about cuddle necessity..
Luckily I telecommute, so will be able to take a nap tommorow if I need to....will update you more as things progress--taking dvil just in case.
will update more tomorrow...

Wow Juliette - you've had quite a day! That's a lot of work to have done. My ortho only braced my top teeth, then waited 4 1/2 months to brace the bottoms. And I'm still waiting on the extraction!

Glad to hear you're taking it well, and you have a caring hubby and cuddly Pugs to help you through! Good luck on your last step to getting fully braced tomorrow!
