black triangle solutions??

#1 Post by TLB in Minneapolis »

Hi everyone,

My two front teeth still bother me. They were overlapped and they have uncrossed but now I have a black triangle or where it looks like pepper is stuck between the teeth. I've been looking at a few "after" photos posted here and I see a lot of people look like they've had some IPR between the front teeth to even out the vertical line.

Is this something I can mention at my next appointment or should I wait for my ortho to just do it eventually? Not sure what the protocal is on things like that. I know the gum might eventually 'grow' in to that space but I think I would be happier having a more even look.

Any other ideas on this or has anyone had a similar situation??

Thanks!!!

No, the gums will not grow into the space (at least that is what my ortho said). I have had black triangles between a bunch of my teeth since shortly into my treatment - about 2.5 years, and they have not gotten any better.

Hopefully you can have some IPR. My ortho told me I cannot have IPR because my teeth are too narrow. I have to live with the black triangles or else get gum surgery. :(

So, I am so glad you asked this question. I definately hope to see more responses. But one questions, what is IPR?

I have the same bloack triangle since my upper teeth were really overlapped. Now over a year later they are straight but I am left with a black triangle on top. It sort ofbothers me a littlbit but its ot really one of my top priorities. I think if I need the IPR done on my uppers to sort of make a less overjet ontop ten Iwill deffinately ask my otho " Hey since you are doing some IPR already, you think you can try to close this top triangle a little bit more?"
