Thanks for the welcome and the good tips Kara :D

I have always been a bit obsessed with lipbalm ... I have little tubs and pots of it everywhere so at least now I have an excuse to use more. I have even ordered some lipsmackers stuff on ebay 'cause I can't get them here

I started using wax yesterday. I was doing a lot of talking and the last brackets on each side were irritating my cheeks. I'm a fan already!

I went out for a family dinner last night and it went really well. I had lasagne which was really easy to chew. Ok it took me a little longer than usual but by swishing water around my mouth every so often nothing got stuck in them. My boyfriend was on watch for food getting caught in them anyway

Sounds like you've got this braces thing down pat. :D I have my boyfriend on food watch too! I show him my teeth all the time. Each new piece of hardware after adjustment and wires sticking out... LOL. He thinks its funny.

My favorite lipbalm is actually the Mary Kay stuff.
www.marykay.com

It's absolutely awesome. Put some on at bedtime and in the morning your lips are magically healed! Overnight! :D

I had a good case of chapped lips for my first month or so. Mary Kay has this stuff called 'Satin Lips'. With that you get this exfoliator type stuff to rub on for about a minute and the balm is included with it. I think the set of two is around $15 but its well worth it.

There's my make up tip for the week. :)

So glad you're doing well! Thanks for the post on my story too!

That's funny Kara :D
I will definitely be doing the same with my boyfriend. He is my progress photographer too ...

I love all the lip balms you guys have in the states. I was in Boston a couple of years ago and was in my element in CVS with all the lip balms they had. I came home with bags of them :D

Thanks for the Mary Kay tip! I will have to give it a go, it sounds great

Hi laineyloo!! I found your journal :jump: !!

Sounds like you're doing great so far...love the pink ligs :D . That's the one thing I regret with deciding to go with Damons but it's what my ortho likes to put on new patients and I didn't do much research on the different kinds before going for my consult. Oh well, I'll just admire every elses :jokerlaugh: .

I look forward to following your progress :computer: !!
Keep smilin'! :)

Thanks for stopping by Jenny

The ligs are fun but they have definitley faded in the two weeks that I have them. I think it will have to be hot pink the next time :D

Hey, it's my brace-day twin! :D Your pics are making me consider colored ligs. I think I would try pink since it's my favorite color.

How are the old teeth feeling now? Mine are now pain free and eating almost feels like it did pre-braces except for getting so much junk stuck around brackets.

Hey twinie

Oh do try pink .... they look really good on ceramic brackets. I think there might be a picture of them in the coloured ligs post in the metal mouth forum.

I have to say, the old teeth are doing pretty well! I can pretty much eat what I want too if it is cut up into bite size pieces. I have one particular place at the back where food is guarateed to get stuck and will take some brushing to get rid of but anything else clears away with a good swish of water. On the plus side I am drinking over a litre of water a day which is a litre more than I was drinking before so that can only be a good thing!

So far so good really ... they are not causing me too much hassle at all although I am still eating sandwiches with a knife and fork

My adjustment is scheduled for 4/28 I think. I'm afraid I may have to reschedule since my extractions are on 4/23 and that might be too soon after.

When's yours? :)

I know what you mean about areas in the back where food always gets stuck. Pieces of noodles like to get stuck in my bottom braces between the wire and the teeth since a couple molars aren't yet attached to the wire. Water swishing helps, but sometimes you get stubborn pieces that drive you crazy until you get to brush!

I still cut up sandwiches too. Tried biting into a hot dog with my side teeth and I could feel all the brackets tearing into the bun and meat. Lets just say hot dogs are messy with braces!

Faerydust - My first adjustment is on May 8th and that's when I get my full metal mouth too :)
I got my tops on 3 days after my premolar extraction but that was only one tooth so it might be harder to manage it with more. Salt water rinses are great for keeping infection away. I still do the odd one here and there.
HA  I'll remember the knife and fork if I ever fancy a hotdog!

M1k3y - Thanks for the kind words :) I hope that is the case!

Hi all,

Sorry it has taken me so long to post. I haven't been keeping you up to date at all!

I had my first adjustment last week. All went well and it was only a bit tender for a couple of days after which was good. I didn't get the bottoms on. She want's to align the tops more before she puts them on so it will probably be at the appointment after my next one which is on June 19th. There isn't as much work to do on the bottoms. I had to get a molar band fitted becase the bracket would not stay put. The cleats on the inside of it were driving me mad for a few days until I squahed them down with the back of a spoon and that did the trick :)
I have to get a spring the next time to make more room for the two top teeth that aren't on the wire yet. Besides that everything is going well and I am seeing a good bit of movement. My right canine is really lining up well and my left front teeth are being pulled out more. Everything is looking a bit wonky at the moment but once the other side hits the wire I'm sure it will look better.

Here is my first day:

And this is today:

This pic will show you what I mean by the left teeth moving out:
