5 days post op - photos

#1 Post by Clover »

I had my op on Tuesday afternoon, a 6mm BSSO advancement and one wisdom tooth extraction. I can't believe it's all over and I'm feeling so great, I think I've been pretty lucky with my recovery so far. Everyone says that the waiting is the worst part and it's so true, I was a wreck and spent most of Monday night crying. If it hadn't been for my family's support I think I would've pulled out. I'm quite a proud person and found it hard to ask for help, but sometimes you've just got to, and if you're feeling scared about the op yourself do tell the medical staff. My surgeon was lovely about it and totally reassured me, I had a nice premed before I went down and the anaesthetist put me under using the wee gas mask thing, so it all ended up being quite pleasant :D . I've seen people on the board worrying about being sick when they come round, I brought up some blood myself and it was fine, believe me you're so full of drugs you just don't care  I can remember seeing my surgeon and his assistant grinning like something out of the Mask and telling me everything went well, no nerve damage etc and that they'd see me later. Off I went back up to the ward and managed to get two litres of water, some mash and a yoghurt down me. I had a PCA hooked up to my drip which was fantastic, I didn't need to use it much but it was good to know it was there. The nursing staff were amazing, I couldn't begin to praise them enough, nothing was too much trouble for them. I was allowed home yesterday afternoon, armed with painkillers and mouthwash and I'm doing great. I have about 2 fingers ROM, very little pain and my swelling isn't too bad. I quite like it actually, I feel like I've got bubblewrap round my poor wee jaw. I got feeling back everywhere except where the incisions are on the night of the op, it's not 100% but I can feel to some degree, no less than 70% I would say. I'll get some pics on later, I'm going for a nap just now, but I'm so thrilled to finally have a chin, woo hoo! I know I've been lucky, and I'm really sorry that some of you have had a much harder time, but I can only recount my experience honestly. Catch up later x

Congratulations clo  so glad youve had a relatively easy time :D

Know exactly what you mean about the waiting being the worst bit, the day before seems to go on forever!

Take care

Thanks for the lovely replies, very nice of everyone. I've attached a link to my photos, I would have put them on sooner but picked up a wee tummy bug so have been a bit ill over the past few days. Feeling better now, I just hope the sickness hasn't done anything to my jaw. I see my surgeon on Tuesday, so finger's crossed everything is OK. The top photo shows post surgery and the bottom shows pre. I've popped a before and after shot of my teeth, but both bites are pre-surgery. I will take a post-surgery bite photo later, I can't seem to get a good one just now.

Your photos are looking really good :D im 4 weeks post op and still look no where near that normal! you must be very pleased.

Sorry to hear you picked up a bug :( im sure that the being sick will not have effected your jaw, as some people are sick as a result of the op anyway (know that wasnt the case for you, but hopefully you know what i mean) hope all goes well at the surgeons appointment.

Really, really nice Clover! I see the difference in your jaw and cheek . I know you're a bit swollen, but brining your jaw forward also made the line of your cheek nicer--no wonder you already like it! Yeah!
