I’ve just been reading your story and I can sympathise totally with all your extractions. I had 6 and it left my mouth pretty darn sore, not to mention my inability to talk properly.
But like my mum and boyfriend keep telling me, after the extractions the worst bit is over and it will be just a case of braces from here on.
But yay for the weight loss!! I think it’s one of the only perks to all this business!
Good luck with it all!! I hate the waiting for our braces game too…
Good luck tomorrow on your b-day! My many words of wisdom to you would be that you take an OTC pain reliver before your appointment and have a good meal beforehand
Have a great day tommorrow!

Hi GummyH ~
When did you have your extractions? Yes, I think it took 2 to 2 1/2 weeks before I quit talking with a lisp and spraying spit everywhere. All of a sudden I had an abundance of saliva and had to swallow like every third word!!! IT WAS CRAZY!!!
I agree. I think the extractions are going to be the worse part of the whole experience. However, I need four implants. They sound scary but I can only hope it wasn't near as bad as the extractions! I think the two years of braces are going to be a breeze!
Besides the GREAT smile at the end of the process, I believe weight loss is definitely a perk. And an immediate one at that!

Hi Browneyedgrl ~
Thanks for the advice. Although I had been told by my ortho to take pain reliever before my appointment, I probably would have forgot! Thanks for the reminder!
I wish I could have a GREAT meal beforehand; however, I gotta be at work at 8 am, to my dentist at 9:20 am for my cleaning, and to my ortho at 10 am to be braced so that leaves no time for a good meal. Plus I'm heading straight back to work after being braced!
Also, I spent the last nine days eating out at all my favorite restaurants so I think that covers it my good meal beforehand!

Wow, you are a busy girl tomorrow morning. If you have a quick moment, have a bowl of oatmeal (if you like it) at least it's filling.
Good luck tomorrow with all of your appointments. Cleaning and banding. I'm doing the same thing on Wedneday, I have my cleaning in the morning (wires in) and then my adjustment in the afternoon.
Have a good night!

I survived my B-Day!!! I am now on Day 2 of being braced!
So here's how my B-Day went.
After I got my pearly whites polished by my dentist yesterday morning, I headed straight over to the ortho to finally get braced.
They explained everything they did to me. Even though I had just come from the dentist, they still wanted to polish my teeth. Then in went the lip spreaders! Gosh, those are just awful. I'm sure I looked like a total dork! There was a little pinching so they stuck cotton in those areas. Then they had me bite on big, long, round pieces of cotton that looked like tampons! I felt like a stuffed shrimp! They were even considerate enough to ask me if I had sensitive teeth and when I replied yes, they got a cup of warm water for me to rinse my teeth. Then they painted my teeth with the etchant stuff. And yes, this smells and tastes terrible! The assistant placed the brackets on my bottom front teeth and then the ortho came over and adjusted them. The assistant cured them with the laser and then the ortho put the brackets on my molars and the assistant cured them. I was SO lucky to not need molar bands and therefore, not need spacers! Thank goodness!
I got to pick my lig colors. They didn't have a lavendar so I went with light pink! They popped in the wire and my ligs. This was pretty uncomfortable!! Then the assistant ground down the wire in the back so it wouldn't poke me. They took the lip spreaders and cotton out and told me to keep my mouth ajar so I didn't bite my bottom brackets. I probably waited a good 5 minutes as they were getting my bite plate and waiting for the ortho to come over. I could still taste the nasty etchant and was VERY close to gagging! So I asked if they could rinse my mouth. The assistant gasped and felt so terrible because she forgot to do it. She remembered not to spray the cold water on my teeth but forgot to give me my warm cup of water! I was MUCH better after I rinsed!
Next they popped in my bite plate! And when they had me bite down, I was still biting my bottom brackets!! So they gave me a magazine to read while they thickened up my bite plate. When it was completed, they popped it in and out and in and out and made adjustments until it was finally right!
They provided me with my goodie bag: toothbrush, travel toothbrush, flouride rinse (two kinds), wax (two kinds - regular & orthosil), retainer sonic wave cleaner & tablets, chapstick, tartar tablets, retainer case, and a Water Pik. They explained how I was to brush, how often, when to use the Water Pik, etc.
Then I tried to speak!
Oh, Lord! It was NOT good! I was lisping something fierce!! I looked at my ortho and said, "Will I ever talk normal again?" He laughed and said yes but it would take time. And the best way to speed it up is to talk, talk, talk! Yeah, exactly what I want to do when I sound like that!
Afterwards I went straight back to work! My boss and co-workers were laughing at me attempting to talk! And spraying spit EVERYWHERE!! Where in the world does all that spit come from??? I have to admit, it was pretty funny!
Boy, do I HATE brushing & Water Picking!! It takes SO LONG!!
And boy, do I HATE eating!! Food gets stuck by my molars and the extraction sites because all I have there is a bare wire! There's enough there that I could save it and eat it later as a snack! Just kidding!
Other than that, everything is going OK. My teeth are a little tender but nothing major. I have wax on a molar bracket cleat and that's it! No sores just a little tenderness! My cheeks feel most irritated by my extraction sites with the bare wire!
Well, I gotta get to bed! I will post pics soon!

Congrads on going through! I know what you mean with the lip spreader. I felt like such a dork, wondering how funny I looked with that thing in my mouth!
Hope the everything goes well for you and your teeth!
Yay!! You did it!! Congrats! I laughed at your story about being a stuffed shrimp and trying to talk. At least we can all laugh at some point in our "braced career" even though we feel like crying sometimes, huh?
I can't wait to see some pics. So you got pink? I'm not surprised...knew you must like pink since you change your font colour to pink..hehe! I don't get to pick out pretty colours since I have self-ligating brackets...one of the downfalls.
Well, I'm glad you "survived". (not that I didn't think you would) Chat soon!
Keep smilin'!
