Extraction didn't go so well.

#1 Post by VistaXP »

Did any one get any swelling when they pulled out their teeth? I had four extraction (8 shots) and was bleeding for 3 days than I had swelling on the one that bleeded the most. Any one know if its infected or is this normal?

At this time, the bleeding comes and goes.

I would call the office right away and go in and have it checked.

When I had my 4 bicuspids pulled, I had one extraction site that hurt so bad--even 4 days after the procedure--that I thought I had dry socket, so I went back to the oral surgeon. Turns out I didn't, but I'm glad I got the confirmation that all was OK.

I agree to give your doc a ring a ding! The bleeding should have subsided within that day. Hope all is well!

I agree- get a confirmation on what is happening. I had 2 extractions and the bleeding stopped within 24 hours.

Did you go back for a post check up? I had one extraction that was swollen and painful. I knew it was infected even though my surgeon insisted it couldn't be. Well after a week of PAIN I called him and asked him to take a closer look. I asked him to look what would happen if I put a little presser on that area and it oozed pus! I got antibiotics and was feeling soooo much better in like 36 hours.
Also if you got so many shots ,you should expect a bit of swelling for a few days.Call your dentist asap and get it checked out.

Yeah I went to his office today, he said it wasn't the extraction area that was the problem, but the tooth behind it. Said food was stuck inside or something and said I should brush that area better.

He gave my prescriptions for penicillin (antibiotic) and Tylenol #3 pain killers which I didn't buy.

So far the antibiotic seems to reduced the size of the swollen area.
