DONT EAT THE POPCORN

#1 Post by ibraceface »

So... i ate popcorn, despite being told not to... and let's just say I learned my lesson..

For the past week I have had a terrible pain in my gum. It felt like something was stabbing my gum...

I have been flossing, brushing, and using my waterpik... yet couldn't fix my problem....

Today I got so fed up and finally dug and scrubbed between my molars with a proxy brush.... low and behold... it was a dang POPCORN KERNEL shell!!!

It had magically found a way to wedge itself between my teeth.

I never knew a popcorn shell could cause so much pain.

No more popcorn for me. Lesson learned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just thought I'd share... any similar experiences?

I had that happen! I was trying to live the "braces won't stop me" philosophy, but popcorn did not work at all. The kernels got all jammed up in my wires, and they cut up my gums horribly as a result. It took a solid day of work to get the last of them gone.

I'm afraid nothing can keep me from my beloved popcorn. Those hulls are quite painful though! It's such a wonderful feeling when you finally get it out.

I had the exact thing happen to me last weekend!! My back molar hurt so bad I was almost ready to call my dentist and have him use one of his tools to get the shell out! Those shells are the worst for getting wedged in your gums. Popcorn is on the top of my list now of foods to aviod while in braces.

Lesson learned here too!

I have never been a big popcorn eater until I had ROBERT'S AMERICAN GOURMET PIRATE BOOTY. It's made with puffed rice and corn and it's probably a good alternative to regular popcorn for people with braces. I must warn that it is very addictive.

Mmm, pirate booty! I haven't had the courage to try normal popcorn yet, but I can't live without the pirate booty!

Trader Joe's has their own version that's outstanding, as well. It doesn't trouble my braces more than anything else I eat...I should know, I just went through a whole bag this week. :D

I used to eat popcorn more often in the past, but eventually stopped eating it. I don't know why, though.

OOOH I love me some extra buttery popcorn with a sprinkle of garlic powder or lawry's seasoned salt. I also like white cheddar popcorn from the supermarket. Christmas time makes me crazy for chocolate covered popcorn. I think I deal with popcorn just because I love corn so much. I still eat corn on the cob.

I love the kernelless (sp?) popcorn the best. You can eat that with braces right?

I've been craving popcorn since I was braced a few weeks ago. I don't really want to cause myself any pain for popcorn-- thanks for your story. I think I'll stay away and eat something else :)

ACK! I just ate a mini bag. I was just so happy to be able to chew something, anything, and I am here alone watching TV and needed a snack. There is a new Orville Redenbacher (?sp) that is called buttery salt and peper or something like that. It was in my pantry calling me LOL!

I got braced on Tuesday last week and am FINALLY able to chew real food and it feels so good! Now I am freaking out about misisng kernels. I was careful not to chew too much (I'll probably wake up with awful stomach pains tonight), and I don't have bands on my last two uppers and lowers, so tried to keep the popcorn 'back there.'

Glad you got it out - that sounded horribly painful!
