Have to get 4 teeth removed *sigh*

#1 Post by $urge337 »

So i have had my braces in for 6 weeks and a day (today). Went for my first adjustment 2 days ago. ANyhow, from the get go i was informed that i will have to get 4 teeth removed and the time has now come. When i went in for my adjustment, they gave me papers to provided to my general dentist for them to remove my teeth. I am super super nervous about this. YES i have had other opinions on my teeth. I have been to 3th diff ortho's and they have all said yes remove 4. So i am pretty sure that this is what is needed to be done. But nonetheless, i am nervous. I was excited because i know that its another step closer to the end but now i am like AH! From what i see of my teeth, the top row seems to be ok, it just "seems" like it needs very little work. I can understand the reason to remove 2 from the bottom cause i have two front teeth on the bottom that are further back so i understand the reason to pull those. But the top row isn't like that (of course they know more). I think that i am just flipping out for no reason as 3 diff orthos has told me the same. Please tell me to chill out!! lol. I have to call my general dentist for an appt. *sigh*

I just had 2 teeth removed today.

Wasn't painful, the worst part was the noise you could hear when they yanked the teeth out.

Just think of how great your smile will be when its done - that's what I'm thinking of!

Hi,
I am just speaking off the cuff here, but I wonder if it is so sad for yo to do the extractions if you could find an ortho who is able to do a treatment without that? Sounds like you have looked a lot and of course I don't know your situation. I wish you the best with whatever choice you make. But if you have the wherewith all, could you visit 3 more orthos first, just to be absolutely sure?!!

Thanks for the replies! i do feel better after i have made my appt and getting reassurance from you all. I thought more about it and now i realize the need for the 4 teeth being extracted. I recall my ortho saying that my teeth protrudes a little bit so she will be correcting that for me. Now it makes sense for the extractions especially for the top row in order for her to bring my teeth in more. WHEW! thank you guys so much for your responses!!!! :)

Maryeaten,
I think you are right, actually. I am definately not vehemently against any extraction! Sorry if I mis-conveyed that.
I simply regret my personal extractions.
Sometimes I say things reactively without enough consideration. Sorry!

I also need 4 extractions done and I am pretty scared. It probably won't be for a while though.
Well done for getting a few different opinions first $urge337. Good luck with your extractions! It's just another step towards a beautiful smile :D

So tomorrow is the big day!!! i am soo nervous again LOL. I am going to the dentist to have my 4 first bicuspid's removed. I can't believe its tomorrow! I am taking a half day off of work to rest and rest over the weekend.

But i do have a quick quesiton. I have read and have noticed that people normally get their second bicuspid's removed. I am wondering why am I getting my first bicuspid's remove instead? Is this normal?

Everyone wish me luck tomorrow! I am fearful of needles and can't handle the cite of blood so hopefully all will go good!! I am definitely keeping my eyes closed during the whole thing LOL.

Hiya,

Like you I also had multiple opinions that I needed 4 extractions of the 1st bicuspids, so I finally decided to just go ahead. I had them out in 2 appointments, first the two on the left then the two on the right (just 2 days ago).

Extractions are really not bad at all! Mine took all of maybe 10-15 min per appt? And part of the time was really spent chatting to my dentist about what I could see on my x-ray, etc. 95% of the time if your teeth are normal (no double roots or anything unexpected) they'll just pop out in less than a minute. You'll feel a lot of pressure but absolutely no pain. The only possible pain is from the needles; most of the time it's just a pinprick, you'll only feel a bit of a burning sensation if the dentist happens to hit a nerve. Our anatomies are all slightly different so it can be hard for him to predict where this is.

Of course it's still a pretty scary thought to have teeth out at all; but hey I know lots of people who have been there and done that, and look and feel fine today and have no problems with their teeth. If you trust the opinions of your orthos, than probably you should just do it. Of course there isn't any harm in getting more opinions, even if it's just to help reassure yourself.

Good luck! Hope the healing goes well :D

good luck with the extractions, $urge337 :rose:

i had four taken out, in the same way bratsche did, two on the left, then two on the right a full week later. i was really nervous about the pain, and it came as a huge surprise to me that it genuinely didn't hurt at all! i did make sure not to drive to the appointment though, as i react strongly to anaesthetic, and was more than a little woozy after the pulling! what i remember is my dentist pushing up into my gum quite firmly at first to enable him to pull the tooth out - and the joy of learning how to eat on each side of my mouth independently afterwards! luckily, the mouth is an expert at healing up, and it really won't be long before you're wondering how you ever managed to fit a tooth in the space left behind

ooh, and i'd recommend buying a couple of nice soups and ice creams just to pamper yourself afterwards - again, best of luck, although i'm sure you won't need it :-1

Ok i feel better that i am not the only one who is gonna get the first bicuspid's removed. My dentist did ask me if I wanted to have my teeth removed in 2 sessions but i said no, let's do it all at once because i didn't wanna go through it twice (i hope i made a good decision on that lol). My dentist also told me to give him about an hr and a half for extractions. I was thinking goodness but im sure he is just estimating incase the extractions become difficult... but in 3 more hrs im going.. so nervous!

I am actually driving myself there and all my friends and family think I’m crazy lol. But to my understanding I won’t be put under anesthesia just numbed up so I should be fine (I hope). I had my wisdoms removed before and I was knocked out and also went to the oral surgeon. And you’re right about the mouth and healing up quickly. I think your mouth is one of the things that heals up the quickest too.

I wish you a speedy recovery. Sometimes teeth have to be removed by every ortho. Mine has a policy of not removing teeth but she'll admit there's times when it is the only option.

After seeing three orthos who all said the same thing, I think you can be assured you're doing the right thing.

I wore braces (this time) for 1294 days or 3 years, 6 months and 17 days.
