I've noticed the last few months that the skin on my chin keeps on breaking out. I've always been prone to spots there but they seem to be getting worse. I do dribble a lot when I brush my teeth because I look in the mirror to see what I'm doing and make sure I don't miss any bits. So I have my mouth open and the toothpaste gets out and dribbles down my chin mixed up with saliva etc. I was wondering if the toothpaste/mouthwash dribbles were affecting my skin. I do rinse it off afterwards but the skin often feels sore, looks red and of course I then get the spots.
Has anyone else had a problem with increased skin breakouts? I'm almost 42 and far too old for spots!
Strangely enough this is something i've noticed too.
I have a theory on it though, ok so you know how if you put toothpaste on a spot its supposed to dry it out? Well i believe the toothpaste is drying out the skin on the chin and causing increased oil production and thus an increase in spots.
I've been having this problem too. I've been having breakouts on my chin and cheeks, and boy is it irritating! I thought it might be the toothpaste, and my hands all over my face when I'm trying to floss, but then I thought, nah, it's just me. Glad to know I'm not alone!

It's kind of comforting to know I'm not the only person with toothpaste induced spots. I am going to try putting a bit of cream on my chin before brushing - maybe that will act as a barrier to stop the toothpaste getting on my skin and drying it out.
Toothpaste shouldn't be causing breakouts - in fact, some people use toothpaste to dry out and reduce inflammed pimples (I've tried, but it didn't work for me, although it certainly didn't make it worse).
I'm wondering if the increased breakouts are stressed-related...after all, acne is mainly caused by hormones and stress.
Maybe, but I know it's not stress or hormones in my instance. I'm less stressed at the moment than I have been for the last few years and I do not have any "hormones" cos I've been in surgical menopause for the last 3 years. I'm almost certain it's the toothpaste because I am only breeaking out in that area.
I would suggest start washing your face with cleansing products made for acne. I have been washing with Oxy Daily Wash Maximum for several months now, and then applying moisturizer to my face lightly after showering. That alone has reduced breakouts significantly! And I'm in my early 20s so I'm much more prone to breakouts
I haven't gotten any spots on my chin from the dribble, so I think it's a matter of treating your skin right
