Pics of my Essix retainers.

Congrats, your teeth look nice. In fact my teeth look almost exactly the same. I am about a week and a half out of my braces with Essix on top and bottom. Did you notice any small gaps forming between your teeth, specificaly your front top 2 teeth? I am having a small space form in there and don't know whether to be worried or not.

Oops, didn't answer raj327. Sorry.
No, I did not have that issue. Probably because there was never such a space
before. I had crowding on those teeth. If there was a space before, then relapse
can happen, but is very easily corrected. No worries. Just mention this to your
ortho.

I am getting an upper essix and a lower hawley in july and was wondering more about how they would feel, do you still get a little bulk off the essix similar to what is caused by brackets?

Also it took time for me to adjust to my upper hawley last time with me having a lisp for a short period, is there any possibility of this from the essix? My last question would be is it easy to adjust too having in your mouth, i can remember the discomfort of having my braces put on and dont really want to go through that again.

I guess all depends.
But most here tell that an Essix is very comfortable. That is normal I guess,
if you see how thin they are. The less material "around" the teeth, the more
comfortable it is. So I think Essix retainers are the second best thing you can
have. Bonded retainers are the best. Comfortwise. Anyway, I had a lisp, that
did disappear quickly. After some weeks, I didn't even notice them anymore.
So, don't worry, it will work just fine.

To the person getting braces a second time.

You are having a problem like I would have had if my orthodontist hadn't told me to get a fiberotomy. You see an oral surgeon, he/she numbs you up, and the severs the elastic fibers that get tight when your teeth are straightened, to prevent them from snapping those teeth right back after you get your braces off. I got it done a few weeks before I got my braces off (removed yesterday) and my teeth are good now. The fibers re-align themselves after being severed, to hold the teeth in place the way they should be. The procedure was 10 minutes or less and only cost me $220, including the $105 consultation fee. It is very inexpensive, and painless except for the shot of lidocain in the pallet to numb you up. It's really simple, and more than likely will save me from a second round of braces. Just thought I would put this out there in case it helps.

Mine was called a supercrestal fiberotomy and they severed the fibers surrounding the tooth that sits on each side of my two upper front teeth .

Really?

Really? I didn't know that. So far, so good for me. I had mine done almost a month ago and it seems to have worked but perhaps my teeth were more severely rotated than hers were. Good to know though. At least it's not expensive if it didn't work great for someone. If it were $1000 or more, maybe I would not have taken a chance on it either. Money has a big impact on what most of us are willing to do, but then again, everyone on here has or is shelling out a big pile of money for their braces. Mine are off and I don't even own them yet. Five more payments. Grr.
