Hey Meryaten Happysmiler lindss20 and Lillers
thank you for you kind words, i am very very happy, I am hoping that if there is anyone reading this who is considering surgery they will go for it.

i have wanted a normal bite for as long as i can remember, and i never thought it would happen, im so glad i chose to get braced,.. nothing is as bad as you think its going to be, that includes being 30 years old and braced, and also having surgery, i was really scared and i didnt need to be, i bounced back really well, and it fixed a problem the braces alone were never going to fix. it was 110% worth it.

I am about 2 months away from getting my braces removed... i cant wait to see my smile, i am already over the moon about it :-)

my recovery is going really well, a quick update is,
swelling - 98% gone
bruising - 100% gone
eating - mostly soft stuff still
kissing - no probs!
pain - none
happiness - 100% :-)

Awesome News!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i went to see my ortho a couple of days ago, the first time he has seen me since my surgery 8 weeks ago,... he said my teeth look fab, and he sees no reason why i should still be braced, so he made an appointment for 3 weeks time TO TAKE MY BRACES OFF!!!

I am so excited! in a way i wish he hadnt told me as i am now counting down the days!
its been 2 years and 2 months since being braced, and im so happy at the way my teeth have been transformed, i used to be so goofy, my teeth were wonky, and my jaws didnt line up at all, i never thought i would have good teeth, i feel like ive won the lottery, and i think i will probably spend about a week looking in the mirror when they come off! :-)

Seeing results like yours makes this whole Do I or Don't I decision a lot harder(or maybe easier). The results are fantastic! I'm just not real sure about having to learn to chew again. Curious how long did it take you before you could talk an hour at a time (I teach) without having your jaw tired?

Plus is it vanity or shear stupidity to do this at 50? I do suffer from the pops on my left side and my jaw being tired but is it really sane at my age?

Mike
I wore braces (this time) for 1294 days or 3 years, 6 months and 17 days.
But who's counting?

Thanks for praying for me and thinking happy thoughts.

Iborg,

Hey, I put it off 'til I was 46, but what if I live another 40 years? I think what really did it for me was when my sweet Mom passed away 2 years ago. I realized that I have one life and I was going to do what I could to change my life for the better and not worry about what I couldn't change.

Good luck!

Lo

Iborg- I think that if you are already in braces, and going through the whole orthodntic thing right now...and there is something inside of you thats wants this surgery (even if just for vanity reasons) than having it done is in noo way stupid!
You don't want to live with regret, and if you do have it I don't think you will regret it...but if you don't...who knows?
I struggled with the do I/don't I for a long time....so I understand the mental war your having!

One thing I know for sure....you can't go through something like this unless YOU want it. If you are doing it for someone else (be that the orthodontist, family, dentist...etc...) than it would be a struggle.

Hi Mike,

I agree 100% with Meryaten's reply, it wasnt so much about learning to chew again, i just couldnt do it because my mouth wasnt strong enough, as for talking i was chatting to the nurse for ages after i woke from my op,... i just remember having a sore throat, and my jaw felt tender,(swollen) but thats it.

i was worried about my surgery for months leading up to it, and wondering whether i should be going this far to fix my smile, but im REALLY happy about the way my teeth look and the way my jaws line up, i dont regret anything for a second, the other thing is the surgery wasnt anywhere near as painful or scary as i thought it was going to be, im not going to lie, its no picnic! but it wasnt that bad, and i recovered really quickly, now 8 weeks on, i am completely recovered.... no pain, no discomfort, no swelling. and pretty much eating normally.

im an all or nothing person, i could have just had the braces, but i wouldnt have ever achieved the perfect result without the surgery, and i would recommend it completely,... but think about what you want to achieve, and understand all the facts, surgery is a big deal, so bear everything in mind.
